Another thread from a while back about poles.  The opening question is about pole length.  At some point, the topic of adjustable poles used for hiking or longer traverses comes up.  Note that trekking poles can be used in-bounds at a place like Alta.  Also handy when you have a kid who wants poles but it's not quite worth buying a pair yet.
