New skis for daughter, please help pick proper size.

My daughter is 56" in height and weighs 72 pounds. She skied 124cm K2 Luv Bugs (or some such name) last year and wants to move in to twin tips because all her friends have them. She has fallen in love with the 2013 K2 Missy's. I've bought the 129cm to surprise her for her birthday but now I'm wondering if they are too short. The only other option for the Missy is the 139's but I'm afraid they would be too long. She's not the most aggressive skier. She's comfortable and confident on our greens and blues here in Michigan.

Could someone give me some direction.

So if my math is right the 139 is about her forehead, and the 129 would be about her mouth?  So, she is right inbetween really.  Neither would be "wrong".  But she is still growing...so I'd lean to the 139, she could easily put on 5cm in no time.

Of course nothing wrong with the 129...but just be ready to likley need to replace them next year.

Alternativley you could give the 129s for her B-day, and see what she thinks.  If she feels confident with the longer ones, you can trade them in for the 139s after her B-day too.  124 to 139 is a big jump, but if she "wants" it, then it wont likely be much of an issue.  A lot of it is mental.

Good luck.

Sorry for the rambling response.

Thanks for the response SkiDude. When comparing the 129's to the 124's, they are the same lenght (due to the twin tips losing vertical height). I'm ok with having to replace next year, I guess. I'd rather not but I want her to be comfortable this season. I'm leaning toward the 129's but still open to other suggestions.

I wish they made these ski's in a 133.

On that note, if someone has other suggestions for twin tips, I'd be open to hear those as well!

Thanks,

Jim

If you don't mind buying a new pair next year, then the 129's would be a good bet. These should handle most conditions for her and give her confidence. Whereas, most people skiing on skis too long tend to lose some confidence sine they are worrying about what their skis will be doing as opposed to enjoying themselves. The fatter skis are more versatile, so being "off" on the short end by a few centimeters isn't that big of a deal.

Have fun ripping with her!

Just a point of caution...if she has "fallen in love" with the Missy's get those...with kids that is far more important then whether they come to her nose or eyebrows.
