I don't have any advice for your current purpose as my insulated jacket (a Cloudveil which I love) is now discontinued, but I just wanted to weigh in as a vote for insulated jackets over shells for resort skiing if you're in a place where it's cold all day. I have both shells and insulated jackets and I often choose the latter (I generally prefer to wear just an underarmor and light merino sweater under my outer layer). I really like the simplicity of an insulated jacket and find that when I want to cool off, opening the zipper/vents much more quickly vents core than when I have my shell with a layer under it. There I need to be moving pretty fast with vents open to get any airflow through the midlayer. With an insulated jacket I can dump heat as I get on the lift then zip up in a few minutes when I'm ready.
I would have a shell and insulated layer if I only had one jacket, but I think an insulated jacket is a nice thing to have.
Edit: I actually do have a recommendation: The Westcomb Flow FX jacket was one of the nicest pieces I've ever played with when I bought one for my girlfriend (which unfortunately I had to return due to sizing issues). It's an Event shell with a plushy polartec thermal pro lining that means that it's semi-insulated. I don't know ifyou're a Steep and Cheap watcher, but it's popped up several times in the not too distant past (I haven't been paying attention for the last month) for less than the $475 they have it for now on the website. I was tempted even though I don't need another insulated jacket at all. Edit 2: According to one of the tracker sites, it was up four times in the second half of november, the last on the 27th. It was listed for $210-220, which I'd rate as a steal. I think you can sign up for an alert if you're interested and it pops up again at sacalerts.com (though I haven't done this so I don't know how well it works).
One note, I bought my girlfriend the small and it came closer to fitting me (I'm 6'2, 175) than her (5'4 115). I don't know how big you are, but a large in that jacket might be pretty big. If you can afford the temporary charge, I might get the L and the XL and see what works better.
