Epicski is Now Mobile!!

Thread Starter

Big news!  You won't need an app, just log in with your mobile device or pad, and the site should recognize the devise and display the clean fast mobile platform.  The Beta version had a button at the bottom of the page to activate the mobile platform for the first time, but I think it all works automatically now.  If not, just look at the bottom-center of this page and select MOBILE...you may even like this interface for your desktop, and you can switch anytime.  This is the biggest game-changer for Epicski ever.

My favorite feature is I can access the pictures on my phone and upload them to Epicski on a 4G connection.  Trip reports just got a whole new meaning in real-time.

The following slides are from the old beta, and the new platform is even better.  This should help you see what to expect, and what is yet to come.  Thanks to Huddler for the hard work and engineering to make this possible.  As a side-note, you should no longer use Tapatalk to access this site.

Lest you think this was an easy thing to do, here's the Mobile Team's workflow diagram:

This looks great!  Will likely be trying it out with my tablet or phone tomorrow.

I am still not getting there. I logged out and then logged back in using the native browser and I got the regular home page. I used a different browser which I'd never used to log in to epicski before, logged in, and got the home page again. is it possible it's not active yet? But maybe I should take it as a sign; I spend too much time on Innertubz forums anyway.

ETA: I also don't see "Mobile" anywhere on this page.

Rollout started today, and it's possible Epicski won't be fully onboard until tomorrow. I have had access for several weeks, and can't see exactly what you do. wink.gif  Supporters, Ambassadors got the preview earlier.

Oh, I guess I can be patient. I've lived this long...

From the tech team:

RELEASE UPDATE: the code push is now complete, but we have experienced some server resource issues that are delaying the rollout of automatic-device-detection for everyone.

So for the moment, most sites will NOT automatically switch smartphone users to the Mobile version. We will be working hard to turn this behavior on for all sites ASAP but it will probably roll out slowly, site-by-site.

Thanks for your patience.

For the time being, we will need to turn it on by scrolling to the bottom of the page (on your mobile device) and selecting "mobile" instead of "desktop."

Ah, wicked!

I cannot find the "mobile" button/link anywhere. I've logged out an in again and tried both the activity feed page and the home page.

It's at the bottom of the page -- if you do not see this, let me know.

Definitely not there. Safari on Mac, all newest versions. Perhaps it's adblocked somehow?

Not on my iphone.

Tried Firefox also not there. Adblock turned off, popups allowed.

Sorry also tried on my iPhone and it's not there.

Nope.  Not there.

Must be something else, SMJ.

I can see the mobile button on all my Macs, iPad, & iPhone. All current on updates and most recent OSs
post #16 of 29
Weird. I emptied my cache, logged out and logged in again.

I wonder if it's a DNS issue somehow and is rolling out geographically at different speeds.

You are in a different user group. Maybe the Ambassadors, coaches, etc see it and members and/or supporters don't?
If that's the case I expect it'll get resolved quickly smile.gif
post #19 of 29

I got it fine, although I had to use the mobile button at the page bottom.  Looks really good.  Thanks to all for this additional service!

I'm checking out the usergroup issue, guys. Stay tuned...

Now working on my Razr and PC firefox. Thanks, this is great!

Working for me now too. Nice interface and features, it would be good to have a setting to increase the font size which is too small for my old eyes. Tapatalk has a larger font and is much easier for me to read.

The font size is (unfortunately) a victim of Apple's text resizing, over which we have no control:

With the non-mobile page I can manually zoom in and out. So basically the way it runs as a web app limits its ability to be scale-able?

Yeah I think here you're trying to find a way to mitigate the Apple-changing-the-text-size problem. Remember, though, that zooming doesn't just boost/reduce the font size. It magnifies the entire area of the page you're looking at. The mobile site is already wall-to-wall, so zooming in would just move some of the text off page. And there's nowhere to zoom out to because you're already viewing the whole page width. I know you want to make the text smaller and fit more on the page but zooming unfortunately can't accomplish that.

Basically, we're stuck with this because of Apple's text resizing. And that's why I find it so infuriating. There's no good way to deal with it.

Works great on my iPhone. Good job, now it'll be so much easier to show other skiers what EpicSki is all about.

I've got it! It displays great on my Droid Incredible 2. When I zoom, whether on my browser or DINC, the text gets bigger and adjusts so that all the words appear in the column, up to the point where there's one word per line, although I do have to scroll over to see the date on a post. Very clean interface. It's slower to load than Tapatalk, but worth it. Fabulous job--kudos to the developers!
I just realized that the font size is much bigger if you tilt the phone to landscape mode. icon14.gif

Great interface, and fast on the iPhone 5.

Autodetect is now enabled...

Great to now be able to practically access Epic on an iPhone, and like that on an iPad I can still toggle back to the "desktop" interface.

Nice job - well done!  icon14.gif

I set up a Mobile Feedback forum in the Site Suggestions area, if you should experience any problems please report there. Thanks!
