Looking for thoughts on proper size ski for my son.

Hi all, my son is 7 1/2 and would be considered an intermediate skier for midwest conditions. We ski mainly Northern Michigan. He's 52 inches tall (47 inches to his nose) and weighs 60 pounds. Last year he skied on 112cm K2 Indy's and tore them up. They come in below his chin now and I was looking for new skis. We went to a local ski shop and they were suggesting Line Super Hero's in 123cm size. It seemed kind of big but the salesman was explaining that they should be bigger since they were twin tips.

My son loves all types of skiing from flying downhill, to finding random jumps, to skiing backward, and is now showing an interest in spending time in the park

Should I just have him use his K2's for another year? Sure they are small but he will be able to really control them. Or will he enjoy twin tips? I'm worried that 123cm is too long for him, what do you think?

Thanks for any help!

  Kids are so adaptable anyway.....

Twin tips ski shorter anyway, I very much doubt the longer skis would trouble your son, he should have a lot of fun with them, you say he likes skiing switch and finding random jumps, the twin tips should be great for him.

The difference is only 11cm, roughly 4 inches.  Then you need to subtract about 2 inches for them being twin tips and the real difference is only about 2 inches in length.  Another way to look at it is that your son is about 132cm tall so 123cm will come to about his forehead, where they should  Sounds like a good size to me.

Go the 123.

Shorter skis pivot easier, but they hinder glide and make skiing in variable conditions harder, make landing jumps harder....for your son the shorter ski would be more of a hinderance then benefit.  Plus its easy to sell second hand kids skis and get top dollar.  %50 of new price is easy to achieve.

Thanks all, I'll go with the new 123 twin tips. And my ski shop gives me 50% of purchase price on the old skis!
