I just thought I'd start one of these for our little neck of the woods.
Today - 11/23/2012 - was opening day at Grand Targhee. A bunch of us from Jackson were there, along with most of eastern Idaho, it would seem. I forgot to put the camera in the car, so no pics.
It was really good opening day conditions. They're reporting about a 20" base and 76" of total snowfall for the season. We skied off-piste almost the entire time. Clipped a few rocks and stumps but no serious damage to any of our six pairs of skis.
It was sunny, relatively warm (high 20's) and just a really fun day on the hill. We only made about a dozen runs on Dreamcatcher lift before heading back over the hill to Jackson, but we had a great time.
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort opens tomorrow. Our expectations - as far as conditions are concerned - are significantly lower. It will be full-on white ribbon of death. I'll make a few runs right when the mountain opens and then do something else (like go fishing).
Photos tomorrow, I promise.
Just to kick things off, here's a photo from skinning up on Teton Pass yesterday:
