Ski length question.. Mantra/ObSETHed

So I am a pretty light dude, 160 and 5'9.5" or so. I am currently skiing 177 Mantras and granted yeah it is a hella stiff dual alloy ski.. I don't think my ability is up to charging all crazy style with it. When I do bumps I feel it takes too much to initiate turns and doesn't turn well in the steeps for me.

SO I know some of you will be able to help! I am looking at 169 Obsethed skis now. A bit softer, and full rocker as to my Mantras full camber. For my height and weight is that silly? I am using it as an all mountain ski here in the west...CO/NM/UT so conditions are super hit and miss. I do not go insanely fast, but I don't want to go too short to be unstable... anyone have experience? Thanks for helping ^_^

Welcome to Epic. I'm 5 lbs heavier and a few inches taller. Nope, the 177 Mantra is not ideal for your mission. But don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. An Obsethed is kinda the anti-Mantra. Great for soft snow, uh, not great for any other kind. And if conditions are hit and miss, then you especially want something that can also handle firm snow or settled crud, the odd bump, maybe some trees in a pinch. I'd strongly suggest something like a Kabookie, or an Armada TST, or a Fischer Big Stix 98. These are all solid for lighter skiers, they all can handle about any conditions except sheet ice, and they all are reasonable, compared to say a Kastle or such. Get something in the 170's, not the 160's.
