'Burning' pain in ball of foot

Thread Starter

Hi,

I started skiing last season and was really enjoying it except for the pain i was getting in the ball of my foot...I was using hire gear all season, so the make/model of the boots i tried varied, but i consistently had the same issue.

After a couple of runs, I would get a really sharp pain just behind the ball of my foot in line with my big toe to the point where I could barely stand on either foot. I could get no relief while I had ski boots on, but as soon as I took them off, the pain disappeared.

I do have wide-ish feet and usually wear orthotics which i did not have in the ski boots. I also have tight calf muscles...

I am buying my own boots for this season and want to try and get rid of the foot pain so i can enjoy the skiing...I have a few thoughts about what could have been causing it, but wondering if anyone here has ideas/suggestions:

- boots too narrow?

- no arch support?

- read something about tight calf muscles being a possible cause...

Any help is appreciated!

Cheers,

Ben

combination of all 3 of your potential problems could be causing the pain... get to a good fitter and have them assess your feet and biomechanics and then guide you through the process
