Whats Open or About to Ope n PNW - Page 2

It looks possible that Crystal will open for Thanksgiving day. This is the first year in a long time that my wife daughter and I are all home "alone" for the holiday. My young daughter has been watching the website and asked if we could go skiing on Thanksgiving day. I don't necessarily mind crowds OR early-season conditions, but I don't really want to put up with both. What are the crowds likely to be should it open? Had a great day last year on Xmas, no crowds at all.

/wife doesn't want to go, that means daughter and I could ski and still get full on homemade dinner

Crystal is on!  This is from their website today.

IT'S OFFICIAL!! We will kick off the 2012-2013 ski & snowboard season on Wednesday.

We received over two feet of snow in Green Valley this weekend, which will be enough for a limited opening on Wednesday. We plan to run the Gondola, Green Valley & Rainier Express lifts. The coverage is looking really good up top. It's currently raining at the base but it's snowing heavily from mid-mountain up. The freezing level is expected to drop on Tuesday and by Wednesday the freezing level should be well below the base area making for some excellent opening day conditions. Stay tuned for updates!

We are headed to Whistler today for the long holiday weekend. Conditions won't be as good as they have been the last couple years but for November skiing, I'm happy with what's open.

good luck. It could still turn out ok. More snow in forecast and the freezing level is lowering. But I'll still wait -poorest start conditions in a number of years.

Really?  I was up there, maybe 3 years ago (?), on the second Friday in December and it was abysmal.  You could ride the Glacier chair to the top but had to take the T-bar up to 7th Heaven to follow the one road down off of the alpine.  The middle and bottom of Glacier was closed, with nothing but rocks, bushes, logs, and stumps.  Is it worse than that?

as of today I heard they are running red, little red and green only so just that area open. Alpine always takes more coverage.  But its getting better- likely more will open tomorrow at Whistler plus Blackcomb opens. Last few years you have been able to ski to valley in November.
