Frankly, when I'm skiing, I don't want to be worrying about falling on a pricey camera, nor do I want bulk, nor do I want to be forced to try and look at an LCD screen outdoors in sunlight.  So, the choices are pretty limited.  I have a Canon Powershot SD990 IS, but it's no longer available.  I own another camera, a super zoom, but there is no way I am bringing it skiing.  Too bulky. If I were a pro on a photo shoot, the choice of camera would be far different.  But, I'm a skier, I'm there to ski, not worry about my camera.

I'm pretty sure the OP is referring to POV video cameras and which setting to go with.

I use a Contour ROAM and love it.  So simple to turn on and off (no asking "is it on?").  I usually just have it at 720p so you get the 170 degrees of view vs. only 120 degrees when set at 1080p.

The newer version just released is even better with more 60fps options at various modes instead of just 30fps.
