Finally replacing my wretched boots...

Hey guys,

I am finally getting rid of the horrible, ill-fitting boots that I've been stuck with for the past 5 or 6 years (Solomon Rush 8). I ended up with them because I went shopping on pro night without any knowledge and then was stuck with them because I started a business and didn't have the money to replace them. But this year I am finally replacing them. *joy*

But I don't want to make that mistake again. Unfortunately none of the good local boot fitters actually work at a ski shop, so I'm stuck having to buy boots and then get their help with any adjustments/footbeds (which seems very backwards to me).

I do know about sizing now, so won't get sucked into going too big again. But beyond that, any thoughts on what I should look for in terms of flex? Other than flex and fit, does anything else matter?

My stats:

5'9 and 160-165#  (I'm quite strong/fit)

Eastern skier (Mt Tremblant and a local blip of a hill also in Quebec), I try for 1 trip west per year

I am an instructor but haven't taught in a couple of years and not sure if/when I'll return

I love bumps and GS type turns pretty equally.

I ski on Fisher race SC (165)

Not sure if this is helpful, but prior to these boots I had a pair of Solomon Xwave 8 that I loved.

Hopefully this isn't too vague (or too often asked) a question. If so, my apologies!

Thanks!

Elsbeth

Fore/aft balance----lateral alignment----custom foot beds to stabilize the foot and aid in control---a knowledgeable boot fitter might be a good thing---by the way the bootfitter should be asking a lot of questions.  About 100 flex or above should work for your weight and skill level.
