Another Ski Size Question Thread (Blizzard Magnum 8.1)

Looking into buying some of last year's Blizzard Magnum 8.1, so demoing is not an option. I've heard such rave things about these skis I don't want to pass them up at this price, just not sure on size.

5"10, 180 pounds, strictly east coast. 50/50 trees/trail. Type II skier, fairly aggressive. Stuck between the 172 and 179.

Much thanks for any input!

172 Would probably be best.  If you were out west and skied more wide open terrain the 179 would be better but back east

with tighter terrain/trails/more skiers per trail 172 should be the ticket

Top for any other opinions?

My hubby skis the 179.  He's 6' and 185 and uses them as his frontside/groomer ski.  Probably either length would work fine for you but  in the trees  you will probably appreciate the shorter length.

Either length will be fine. Really is a personal preference choice. I'm of a similar size as you and would go 179, but I like my skis a bit long.

172 if you want them for shorter turns and for bumps and trees. 179 if you prefer longer turns and higher speeds.

I am 5'9" & 185 & ski them in the 172. I now believe in "narrower go shorter". I have never felt that my 8.1's are too short, even with the little bit of early rise that was added last year. And my Bonafides and Wailer 112's are 180 & 184, respectively as they complete the "wider go longer" end of the equation.

I'm 5'8" and 170 nekkid -- probably 175+ dressed.  Short and strong for a 50yo.  I skied the 172 both east and west and never wanted anything longer, even when railing at high speed on the groom.  I'd go 172 also.  Too much ski in east coast trees is really tough.
