Snow is Coming

Snow is coming this weekend.  Pretty good storms from across the Pacific and not out of the Hawaii area.   With any luck we'll be skiing at Lookout a week before Turkey Day.

Does anyone know anything about the new mountain opening at Red this year.  Website says cat access 9 riders at a time.  Sounds interesting, anyone know more?

Hiked up Scotchman Peak on Saturday. There was still about 2" of snow left on the top there (7k feet). Too bad the resorts couldn't keep anything around, as it was nice, dense base building snow.

Forecast is looking VERY good this week.. Looks like we have some big, cold storms lined up for Thursday/Friday and again on Monday.

As for Red -- got this in an email last week:

RED Mountain Resort is proud to announce it’s 2012-2013 Snow Cat access plan to the top of Grey Mountain. Our expert trail development team expects to open ten runs this winter. We estimate an early January opening date, but snow permitting we will try to bump up the opening date.

We’ve purchased a Pisten Bully 200, a snow-cat with a spacious cabin that will swiftly shuttle skier to the Peak of Grey. With so much terrain to easily access, these cat runs will deliver some amazing experiences. Cat skiing has never been so inexpensive!

Snowcat rides will cost $ 10.00 per run. The shuttle will run, snow permitting 10 am to 2 pm. The cat runs Thursday to Sunday and on holidays. The pickup for the shuttle will be on the top of Rino’s Run and it makes it’s first major dog leg turn. We expect to make 8 runs a day with the cat. The cat is available for hire to private parties Monday thru Wednesday.

Mike, any idea or thoughts on getting enough people to ski there Mon-wed.  I will see if I can get a $ quote on the cat
