binding for Volkl Racetiger Speedwall gs cheaters?

I just got some last year (same as this year, I think) Racetiger cheaters at a local swap (brand new pair).

Only possible issue is that they have the 12.0 bindings on them (vs 16).  I suspect that will be fine, but just in case I was thinking of trying to swap the 12.0s for some 16.0's so I have some more headroom if required.  I'm 6'2, 225lbs, and hoping to get some local masters stuff in this year (been around 18 years since I skied FIS stuff).

So, I need R-Motion bindings for these?  I don't see them advertised on the web (just EPS and IBC), I suppose that's because they normally only get sold with the appropriate system ski?  I suppose that means if I buy a pair of the 16.0's, I'll have a hard time selling my 12.0's?

Thanks!

From my knowledge of Volkl Cheater gear, as long as they aren't demo bindings it shouldn't be an issue to swap out the 12s for the 16s. They are the same exact binding, other than the fact that the bindings on the cheater ski are in a modified casing. I'm pretty sure if you play around with them or have your shop take a look they should be able to take the 12s right out of the rMotion housing and put a set of 16s right in. I had to do a pair of Racetiger RC's about 4 years ago that came with 12s and we needed 14s/16s on them, and it was pretty easy to take the 12s out of the iPT housing and slide a new pair in. Same screws and everything. I'm not 100% sure about the rMotion because I haven't seen them up close in person, but they should be the same.

If you can find the correct Motion 16.0 binding it will work.  The ski was available from the factory with either binding.  The way the motion system works, the 12.0 slides off the 16.0 then slides on.  I think it is only one screw that holds it onto the ski, the rest is held in place by the rails on the ski.  They are shipped with the bindings off.  You may be able to get a shop to swap them out for you if they indeed are never used new.

Good luck,

I'll try that.. the store selling them at the swap is local, so I'll see if they will consider a swap + $$$ arangement.  Otherwise, I'll consider seeing if I can convert some EPS to Rmotion.

Thanks!

Here is another thought. Why not ski them as is unless you are planning skiing above 12.? If you get serious about masters racing and find you need >12 then I suspect by that time you will be looking at a proper race rather than a cheater

Clamp your skis in a vice, put a boot in them and notice how the boot will rock as much as 1cm side to side at the cuff.

This is due to slop in the rail system

Once I set my BSL, I replace the two screws in front of the heel with long ones that go into the ski.

Drilling required and it eliminates all the slop.

They ski noticeably different when you can't rock your boot from side to side as you change edges.

Stock, they are kinda like a car with loose ball joints.

Of course, they are now personalized for you but that's racin'

That's interesting...  doesn't sound good!

As far as the previous poster, I didn't write my post very well...

I'm considering doing some beer league stuff, and since the hills around here are around 200-300 vert, I doubt I will want FIS compliant skis.

As far as the DIN setting, IIRC, I was running around 15 for GS when I was a kid.  Of course, I'm sure I'm MUCH slower now.  Although I do weigh a bit more (225), unfortunately :).

Thanks.

It just occured to me that I recently purchased some used Nordica SL skis with Marker EPS Comp 14 bindings.  Don't suppose there is some way to swap those with the Comp 12 Rmotions on the Volkls, is there?

Like I said in my post, it should be possible to swap them out. A close friend of mine had a pair of Volkl Racetiger RC's 4 or so years ago with the iPT track and they came with Comp 12 bindings. Took maybe 30 or 40 minutes to swap out the binders with higher 14s. I'm not sure about the Rmotion because I haven't seen them up close, but you should be able to figure something out.
