[Problem| Brakes for Fritschi Freeride

Hi guys,

I have purchased Volkl Mantra 2012 ( 98mm underfoot) and I want to mount them with Diamir fritschi freeride (2005) bindings. The problem is old brakes are 100mm wide and it fits the ski really close. New brakes available on market are 115 mm wide BUT they fit only on new models of fritschi bindings. If I want them to fit to old binding I have to cut off little plastic piece on bindings. The question is: try to widen old brakes or buy new ones and modify the bindings?

If you guys have experience...

Thanks

I don't know about the old model, but I bent the brakes on the newer ones (2010) to fit my skis better. Pretty easy to do if you have the time and tools.

Is there a problem with the close fit? Do the arms hang up? If not, no problem. If they do hang up, either bend them or shave/grind off some of the plastic on the inside of the arms.

You don't need new brakes.

I skied with this combo for years.  Grab the brakes, stretch them apart, and go ski.  The brakes actually retract inward when you step on them, and when the heel releases, the brakes snap outward and down.   You need just a little bit of splay at the ends to make them work.  A more precise bend might be had with vice grips.

Yeah, the brakes fit really close but when they are stepped on they do not fit at all. I'll try to splay them manualy...

Thanks

What a brutal method :D

but to be honest, It's just the brakes...

As I'm dealing with brakes problem righ now I've started to think about new bindings. What do you guys think about Marker Tour F10 (11/12)? And what do you think about my current Fritschi Freeride (2005)? Is it time for a change? The thing is I'm light skier so the chance of braking the bindings (my used old ones) because of my weight is really small. And I ski maybe 10 days per winter...
