I got my big toe trimmed to better fit in my ski boots - the $25 co-pay was a lot cheaper than the $150 minimum charge from my local boot fitter !

Details, please.  How much did they take off?  How many sizes in a street shoe will you go down?  What's the rehab like?

I wear a size 15 street shoe (ski boot mondo 32.5) just because my big toe is so big on one foot.  I'd love to be able to get into a size 13 boot and this might be the key.

Six years ago, after having many pairs of boots modified to accommodate a crooked small toe I also opted for the knife and never looked back. Hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

Yes--what happened, ILOJ?

Did it involve an ax? Quick, easy, and surely effective....

Give us the gory details!

Best regards,

.......didn't think people would take this seriously.

I had a surfing injury about 4 years, wiped out and pretty much slammed my entire body weight through my big toe onto submerged lava rock. Ever since than, the toe nail grows back kinda wierd, and i need to get the side of the nail trimmed back to the root, essentially trimming back an ingrown nail,i get it done every year or two prior to ski season. So, not really trimming my toe back - sorry to dissapoint and give false hope to those with real boot fit problems.

You get the side trimmed back every year or two?  It's possible to do it permanently so you wouldn't have to repeat it.  You can also have the entire toenail removed permanently and be done with it.

.....they tried to permanantly stop the side from growing last time (some sort of acid to stop cells from regrowing) but it didn't take - it took 2 years for it to come back enough to be a problem. Trying a slightly different acid approach this time - we'll see what happens. If it doesnt permanently stop from regrowing this time, apparently they can remove entirely.
