Double dislocation immobilization

Hello!

I had a patient today, male snowboarder, 30 years old who caught his heel edge whilst going very slowly (I witnessed the accident), and suffered a simultaneous wrist and elbow dislocation. Luckily he displayed no severe reaction to the pain he would quite obviously have been in which helped in the immobilization of the injury. My immediate concern when immobilising was non-compromising of his distal CMS. I managed to immobilise with a SAM splint delicately placed to avoid pressure on the injured areas, which seemed awkward, but worked, and used my jacket as a blanket roll under his arm to maintain a comfortable position during transport and EMS were on scene fairly quickly.

Does anyone have another method of immobilization for a double dislocation of the elbow and wrist?

OK- I'll bite.

Immobilize the wrists, as any wrist.  A SAM splint comes to mind.

Immoblize the shoulder as any dislocation.  A sling and swathe comes to mind.

What you did sounds fine.
