East Coaster Looking for All-Mountain Ski that can still work out west.

Thread Starter

It's time for a new pair of skis and I haven't been able to pull the trigger on any single pair. Skied on a pair of Solomon Shoguns last spring out in Jackson. Awesome ski but too much for the East Coast ice? Thought that the Solomon Sentinel would be a good compromise. Looking for that one ski quiver considering I'm a college student without a lot of money to throw around for different condiditons.

I am advanced/expert 6'2'', 180lbs. Any advice would be appreciated

Blizzard Bonafide, Rossi E-98, Kastle MX88, Atomic Ritual,  Haven't skied on the latter 2, but I'm guessing after reading others' comments and reviews they'd  fit the bill. I'm sure others  who've skied it will have comments.

ice or groomed firm snow?  capable in both or doable?  you are heading towards the "can't have everything" edge...

how about just renting for a week?

If most of your skiing will be in the east with only an occasional trip out west, my reccomendation is to stay in the 80-90 mm range underfoot.  This category of skis will handle the firmer snow and ice we get on the right coast, but will perform adequately on softer snow for you one week out west every year or so.

In that category I can reccoment:

Blizzard Bushwacker

Rossi Experience 88

Nordica Steadfast

Volkl Kendo

The above would be good if you like to explore a bit beyond the groomed trails to include ungroomed snow, trees, bumps etc.

Howver if you are sticking primarily to groomers consider:

Volkl RTM 84

Blizzard Mag 8.0 or 8,5

Rossi Avenger 82 CA

Good luck!
