Paint your skis ? - Page 2

That's DuPont Chroma System automotive paint.

Two component polyurethane.

Supplied air respirator required.

At Joe's Garage we use only Sata spray guns.

Found the website again I ordered the special luminescent paint from.  Enough in a 1 ounce bottle to do one ski and due to the granular nature of the crystals in the paint matrix is somewhat blotchy when spread thin.

*is very happy that Kästle has started production in Sweden*

Some of these are looking nice!! Might have to spray my bindings as this seems like the easiest thing to do to get some customisation

Any one thought of decals or got them? Reckon they could look pretty cool

I know!biggrin.gif  I gave that aspect a fair amount of thought.  It made the project more difficult to start but that much sweeter to execute.

The evening after I demo'd them I was raving to a few of the peeps at the hostel.  One of the guys commented that he would never ride a white ski, he'd probably never find it after a fall.  I told him I wasn't worried about that.

I think someone should send me a pair of 2013s so I can rep a pristine pair as well.

I'm not that fond of the recent rounds of Kastle graphics.  They'd be much better if they didn't have that nonono2.gif GIANT size stamp on them.  That just reminds me too much of rental fleet graphics.

Freaq, from now on your ski club name is...

Argyle!

I think I'm going to paint the Joe's Garage logo in the ovals on my new, used RX's I got from Mike C.

Those oval holes just beg for some graphic work.

Cool!  I've got a ski club name =)

Yeah, maybe I'd paint mountain ranges or tetons on 'em if I had any real artistic talent.  As it is, I'm stretched to find a new variation on straight sided shapes.  This is my third argyle motif and I've got four that are tributes to The Ski.

Go man, go!

I had a plan for those but decided it would be a step too far.

As much as I love the simplicity of the Kåstle I will admit that you've executed this paint job nicely.  I would expect nothing else from you.

Ever looked at razzle dazzle camo schemes?

If I ever painted topsheets my first attempt would likely just simply be some SKA black and white checkered pattern..

I just had a picture of them as EVE-type robots (from Wall-E)

Anyone ever try plastidip? Would be interesting to see how it dealt with cold temperatures and the flexing that skis see.

You could do rat skis with truck bed liner.

That stuff is tough.

You should paint "DPS" on those.

Yeah they do look similar.  I also like to carry a yoga mat around with me wherever I go, and finish all my emails with "sent from my iPhone" just to feel superior.

Thanks Phil.

Ya know, I've got a few explanations.  Maybe you'll appreciate this one.

These skis spent much of their lives as demos at a very popular shop in the Tahoe area so lots and lots of peeps have skied them.  I'm sure most of those peeps were righteous individuals but I've spent some time in the lift lines at Squaw so I know that there's a pretty good chance that they've been wielded by some jackass with seriously bad mojo.  Just swapping the binders wasn't gonna do it.  Now I feel that they've been purged, cleansed and are ready to start a new life of adventure and daring do =)

BF

When I first saw you posted in this thread, I began to speculate...would he or would he not. You did them proud and I can only say that I want to see them again at this year's Gathering. They will be much better under your feet than mine.

Enjoy!

Actually, they were in my shop back in Philly. None the less, they have had a good first life, now it is your turn.

My bad, Phil.  I'll scratch that explanation.

I debated for quite awhile, LP.  The longer they stood against my wall the louder the rattle cans called.  Mosdef looking forward to giving them their next grand tour.  Cya soon!

I got inspiration from this thread and painted my Rossignol Bandit B83's :) Cheers guys!

All my ski gear is black and red. These new skis I bought just didn't cut it colour wise and not a fan of the graphics at all.

Before :(

1000

After :D

1000

1000

- Removed bindings

- Sanded down to a dull haze

- Wiped clean with nail polish remover

- 2 layers of etch primer

- 5 layers of matt black

- 3 layers for red strips

- 3 layers of lacquer

Not quite finished yet but it's getting there.

Things yet to do:

- Change orange strip on edges to red

- Apply some Rossignol decals

- Then give its a few more layers of Clear Lacquer to protect it.

Then it's got 3 months to cure in my lovely warm house before I go skiing in Bansko Bulgaria. Should be pretty chip resistant I hope!

Thanks for looking! Let me know what you think :)

Cheers, Chris (Male / 22 / Northern Ireland)

Bansko IS AWESOME! BEST CHEAP SKIING EVER! Also hilarious to watch the locals try to ski, even funnier are the instructors. (Do Not Take Lessons Thererolleyes.gif)

If you are tempted to change scale,  have a look at the color shading on the Coreupt R110

Good Work!  Love the stripes.  makes me think I should add a little flair to the orange in mine.
