Tahoe Jan 27-Feb 6

The wife and I will be in Tahoe 26 Jan - 7 Feb and would love to meet up with anyone in the area for skiing, apres etc...  We'll be skiing 27 Jan - 6 Feb taking the middle Saturday off.

We have Epic local passes so obviously Northstar, Kirkwood and Heavenly will be in heavy rotation.  We will take one or possibly two days and hit Squaw and or Rose/Sugar Bowl.  I've been there about 7yrs ago and skied Squaw, Alpine and Heavenly.  All the areas will be new to the wife.

Not sure about where we'll stay (leaning toward south shore), but don't mind driving at all and am familiar with the Emerald Bay side being closed during storms.  Now that I think about it I stayed south shore last time and skied 1 day Heavenly, one day Alpine and 3 days Squaw.

The wife is a beginner that could handle easy to medium blues in Summit County at the end of our trip last season.  I'm advanced and will ski most places it's relatively open.  The wife will probably take a couple refresher full day lessons at the beginning of the trip and is fine with me showing her terrain she can handle and then I can explore.  We then meet up for lunch and after that I'm off again.

The only way this doesn't happen is if conditions in Tahoe are awful.  We would then retreat to Summit County.  While Summit County is great for the most part, I've skied there a ton in the last 6yrs and want to get back to Tahoe and try something new.  Bonus is that we have $1030 worth of Southwest vouchers so airfare is a non issue.

Hope to hook up with some folks and I'll bump this up as the season progresses.

Thanks for readingski.gif

Would love to meet up with you the 27-29th, but will be tied up after that.

Assuming you're skiing on your EpicPass?  Northstar sound like a good bet?

Sounds fantastic Trek!  Will be great to meet Phil after all these years.  How's Nstar on Sunday's?  I like to avoid crowds as much as possible, but given that will be my first day on snow this season it probably doesn't matter much.  If Northstar it is then Michel & I will just stay in Reno Saturday night.

Look forward to hooking up and thanks for the offericon14.gif

If you're on the south shore pm me and I'll take you around. I ski a mix between Heavenly and Kirkwood with the occasional Northstar day. The snowpack is getting nice and deep, far cry from last year....things are good

Northstar tends to clear out by Sunday but overall, Northstar isn't a lift line issue any time except holidays

Muchos Gracias for the reply's everyone and PM's to followicon14.gif  We are booked South Shore from 27 Jan onward, but might change that to spend the first 3 nights North Shore.  Regardless of lodging location we'll meet up with whomever is gracious enough to share their time and driving isn't a concern unless it's dumpingsmile.gif

Update to the above and a few PM's have been sent.

Thanks to all of you for chiming in on my thread and offering to spend some of your precious time with Michel & I.

Michel & I are now staying north shore the first 3 nights as we got a good deal at the apparently not so great Boomtown Casino that included 3 nights lodging and 2 tickets(1 each) good any day at Squaw for $300.

So we were thinking Sun/Mon Northstar and Tue at Mount Rose if they still have their two of tuesday deal going?

We'll then be migrating to south shore after skiing on Tue.  We only have a full size car rented right now, but hopefully 4WD prices will drop in the next couple of weeks.

Would it be a good idea to scout Northstar parking the night before or is it pretty straight forward?

I think it's pretty straight forward!

As I remember, we had to take a shuttle bus from the parking lot.  We drove through next to the village first.  I considered dropping off my ski buddy with the skis and stuff, but we were there early in the morning so just went to park.  Didn't have to wait too long for the bus.

For Mt. Rose, we stopped by the main lodge to get rental skis for my ski buddy (flying out that night) but then went to park on the other side.

As said earlier, parking is straight forward, but I have two strategies.

If you park in lot b, you can take the Hyatt hotel gondola up to mid mountain and ride it back or ski down to the lot.

Sometimes I park in lot k. It is the last stop before the lodge and the first stop on the return to the parking lot.

Wife & I fly in Mon 28th and will be around at least a week during the next 2 weeks.

Could possibly meet those not tied up later in week at Northstar/Heavenly/Kirkwood or even Squaw/Alpine.

Minor update as we're now at the Grand Sierra instead of the Boomtown 26-29 Jan.  Still looking at doing Northstar 27/28 Jan and Rose on 29 Jan then head south.  We'll definitely be hitting Squaw one day, but that day has to be a Tue/Wed/Thu, so given our travel plans that leaves 30/31 Jan or 5/6 Feb as the days we can hit Squaw, so if one of those days works for someone who wants to meet up let us know.

We also now have 4WD SUV instead of a car, so that un-complcates moving around if some storms roll in.  Looking forward to it and see everyone soon.

^^ Time to get (cautiously) excited.  The storm for next weekend is starting to shape up considerably, with some models projecting more liquid than previously expected.

Hi all, is this group still getting together at Nstar on sunday the 27th?  If so, howzabout a newbie tagging along?  I'm staying at Northstar and skiing solo that day as my wife is tied up.  If I don't see any replies posted in a couple days, I might PM a couple of you.  I get there tomorrow and leave Monday.

Thanks,

Bob

Damn. I will be working Sunday. Damn.

I'm off Sunday and Tuesday but work Monday.   Would love to meet up with you to ski a bit on Sunday and/or Tuesday.

TC, that would be great - I'll be gone by Tues, but the others on here should still be kicking it.  I'll pm you and perhaps we can meet up Sunday with jgiddyup and others

Phil, too bad you will be working.  BTW, I'm cracking up at the title of your review of Hot Chillys in your sig line; reminds me of my favorite Bud Light Lime commercial that never made it to air: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBBcZjxd-bk.  If  you happen to ski Northstar any of Thurs, Fri, Sat I could easily divert from my wife's work-related crew for some runs - I'll put a cell in my pm to TC if either of you wants to text (but don't sweat it if not).

We're here in Reno and looking forward to our first day on ski's this season tomorrow.  Trip report coming up and I can't say enough about the hospitality and willingness of the people here to hook up and share the experiencecool.gif

My skiing Fagowees friends tried to leave Reno 6:30 am today. Small SNOWSTORM! delayed them 45 min

due to deicing. Short version they are stuck in Reno as they'd miss a 45 min connection in SLC.

Looks like 1-2 inches on South & East shores. 3-5 inches on Donner & north shore.

Just want to report back a great day skiing Northstar Sunday with jgiddyup & his wife, Trekchick, assorted people Tc knew, a couple I knew, etc.  My hangover had me skiing like a spaz, but a good time was had by all!  There was about a couple inches of fresh, not enough to fully cover the crust left from Saturday, but we enjoyed it.

As an aside, any other newbies out there that are hesitant to use the boards to hook up with a crew to ski, please don't let that stop you - it's a great way to have some new people to ski with.

It was really great to meet up with you.  Super fun to help you work out the kinks from the hangover. biggrin.gif

Even though you didn't hit it up when conditions were ideal, I think we found some sweet places to make some turns.

Please get in touch when you make it back out this way.
