Christmas resort recommendations?

Thread Starter
Considering a trip over Xmas.

What would people suggest?

My primary considerations are:
-good snow - obviously a guess/prediction but some resorts are better early season than others
-not too crowded - yes I know hard during Xmas
-not hugely expensive but this isn't the primary consideration

Will be one advanced rider and an intermediate skier.

Preferably something out west - Utah, Colorado (too crowded??), or maybe Idaho, Montana, or even california (besides mammoth)

Thanks,
Josh

If you do a search, someone did a review of Solitude during Christmas and said the crowds were good.  That would meet your criteria, though its not a mega resort.  Its not cheap there, but I don't think it's too bad.  Brighton is just down the road too.

The other think to think about is what you mean by over "Christmas"  around here in Summit County CO, it is normally way more crowded starting around the 26th or 27th (calendar dependent).  Looking at this years calendar, I suspect you will find most places less crowded the 24-26th than the 29th or 30th.

Which is most important?

Good snow, lack of crowds, or affordable?

You're not going to find all three of these together during Xmas.

Good snow and lack of crowds probably most important of the two.

Bit pricey is ok but something like aspen is probably too $$

I checked Solitude's webpage and they have a 25% off sale going on right now.  It looks like a good deal.

Combining crowds and snow quality, it will be your best bet over pretty much anywhere.  Here's a link to a past Christmas trip report.

Not exactly your situation in terms of type of skiers and age of kids, but this thread from a couple years ago might give you some ideas.

^This Matches you perfectly. With Jackson hole or Sun Valley pulling the crowds over to there lifts, and GT ultimately getting more snow, Grand Targhee will be a lil pricey (idk tho to be honest, def not aspen $$). It rocks for intermediates to advanced. not so much expert tho...

Wait, Sun Valley and Jackson Hole are crowded?
