Interesting sight at AM today--a man and a child--maybe 7 or 8, hard for me to tell, on top of Summit and the kid looked like never on skis before--having a very hard time getting down the cat track towards sunspot--dad (or granddad) had kid between his legs at one point. Last seen sidestepping down the closed-to-skiers machine road past sunspot.  I did send patrol to check on them.  There's a kid who's going to love skiing.

Well I hope Maine has a great spring and really hope Tahoe goes off.  My mind will forever picture the possibilities of a really good powder day at Kirkwood until I actually get to do itcool.gif

Are you crashing with Bob at all when you're in Tahoe?  I'm very likely to run into you, in that case.

Thursday feels like a Squaw day after they don't open the upper mountain on Wednesday due to heavy winds.  I'll be there solo if anyone is around... text or PM me.

Yup. I may be bunking in with him at AM, he and a few others with me in Squaw, 1st April at a ball game in SF rootin for the Oakland A's, then maybe Tahoe Donner, then Heavenly at Stagecoach, the LA or somewhere. Phew! I'll need a holiday after that at our Southern Hemisphere  ski resorts biggrin.gif

Am in Reno until Saturday. Can anyone give me any sort of a sense for what roads are going to be like if I'm trying to get in to ski anywhere over the next three days? (I have an FWD rental car.) TIA!

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 75

Before JayT, TC and Phil go slumming  in Jackson, we should have a bbq at Squaw. and bring your Speedos and a towel.

Squaw shut down the upper mountain today due to high winds (no surprise there).  Same deal for Summit / Alpine Bowl at AM.  Tomorrow should be good.

Go Tahoe!!!  Glad to see winter return.  After perusing various webcams it looks like everyone is getting moderate to heavy snow.  Tomorrow should be good indeed.cool.gif

Thanks for the info. I also found this page: http://www.safetravelusa.com/nv/, which I probably should have looked for harder before posting :). Hopefully will be at Squaw tomorrow unless chains are required there and not elsewhere (apparently Wal-Mart doesn't take returns on chains any more).

go to caltrans site and look up 80 (the interstate from reno) and 89 (from 80 to squaw valley road). You may need chains on one or both, but maybe not.  If chains are required from point x to the donner lake interchange and not on 89 you should be ok without chains.  Donner Lake interchange is where 89 connects. (At the moment there are no chain controls on 80 but are controls on 89 from 80 to squaw).  Squaw valley road itself is flat and you can usually get by without chains if you made it that far without them.  Alpine Meadows road is longer and steep and may need chains even if 89 is clear. (I assume by FWD you mean front wheel drive not 4WD).

South Lake Tahoe (lake level) 03-05-13 5pm after weeks of barely any new snow...

03-06-13 8am...

Now that's what we like to wake up to!

Ended up getting about 6" at lake level. Up on the hill at Heavenly it was more, seemed

like 10-12" in some places...

Snowed steady most of the day. Only drag was due to high winds Sky Chair was

closed, so no getting over to Nevada.

Still, no complaints!  Thank you, Ullr! One more, please!
