8' 2x3.  Lay out pegs 2" apart and 6" apart between pairs on center.  Holds 12 pairs.  Note.  You need 24 5" dowels so you need to buy three 48" .75" dowels.   I bought two and had to fabicate 6 extra pegs from a ski pole and a beaver sticks.

What if you wanted to put some sort of cushion on the pegs, for example a rubber or foam rubber cover over the peg, would you still keep the distance at 2"?

Is 6" between sets enough to provide clearance for the bindings on both sides?

I did one like that and use an old garden hose cut to length.

Seems to be enough space for bindings.  The race skis are a little tight but you could always stagger kids skis or unmounted. Wood is pretty soft.  I do not think will mar the tips. :)

Built one of those like that...worked fine until skis got rockered.

2" is too much for some skis (*cough*Palmers*cough*)
