Bent Poles or Straight Poles

Thread Starter

We are talking ski poles here so get your minds out of the gutter.

I have the opportunity to buy composite GS race poles (the pre-bent ones wink.gif) for a really good price.

I have no intention to race.

So.... any advantage or more importantly any disadvantage over straight poles? for front side skiing.

Wish I still had the picture of my bent pole from last season. Got my skis caught in some shrubs and fell on my pole, bent it with my hip pretty good. I saw no advantage to that.

Unless you're tucking everywhere, no.

Ymmv. However I normally use a GS pole (swix composite or scott S4 ) as my everyday default pole. Only time I use a straight pole now is my slalom poles.

And swix composite are the best poles I have used...

Straight for sure. Only time you want bent is if you're an intermediate-advanced GS/SG/DH racer. They're built to follow the contour of your body as you're in a tuck to take away a slight bit of air resistence, I believe. Not for normal use of poles (planting and balance).
