Conventional wisdom says that a stronger, heavier skier will need/want a stiffer boot. I've often wondered how you know this to be the case for yourself? If you look at high level skiers (pros, etc.) there are some that prefer a softer more playful ski, while there are some that prefer a stiff charger. At the end of the day, a lot of it comes down to their personal preference and style. Why couldn't/wouldn't the same be true for boots? Perhaps it is true, but very few people ever realize it because you don't have an easy way to demo boots like you do with skis. Or perhaps not. But if not, why not?
More importantly, as a consumer, how do you decide what to do, short of just doing whatever your bootfitter tells you to do?
I'm asking this question because I'm in the market for new boots, and the first shop I went to I wasn't thrilled with the boot they wanted to put me in because I don't think it's enough boot for me. But this got me to thinking... how do I really know?
I opted to post this here instead of the Ask The Boot Guys forum because I wanted to hear what everyone had to say.
