I am a legend in my own mind.

I once had to demonstrate my ability to acquire a certificate to teach people to ski.

My instructor examiner viewed my best efforts with Austrian disdain and told me "You ski like a sack of s**t. " he went on to say "But you are not Austrian, so as a Scottish sack of s**t I suppose you will do. "  He passed me.

Any time I think I am skiing well I remember Gustav's opinion of my abilities.

Reminds me of a much nicer, but equally humbling, experience last winter.

I was in an off-piste group skiing in some crusty conditions. We were chatting with the guide about how to ski crust, and eventually he said "well, if you can't ski crust, then you can't really ski." He said it in the nicest possible way, but it was still quite humbling, especially as we watched him ski the crust with no sign of difficulty whatsoever.
