So Confused!!!

Hi Guys,

I need some help! I am an advanced skier who used to do a little bit of racing and grew up attached to my carvers. I did a season in Whistler a couple of years back and bought, on recommendation, the Roxy Black Magic as I was looking for a ski that was going to be a good all mountain ski as I was wanting to be a little more adventurous than just my usual groomers!

now I'm looking to replace them for something that can still carve and be more aggressive on groomers but that'll still totally hold its own off piste and in pow.... My boyfriend is a snowboarder (!!!!!) and he is always dragging me on off piste adventures! We are also thinking of heading to Japan for pow in next year....

Does anyone have any recommendations for skis? All that has been suggested to me so far is the Volkl Kenja which, from what I can see, looks awesome! But I don't want to jump in too quick as I really want to find a good ski for me. Any advice would be greatly received.

Thanks,

Rebecca

Hi RebeccaP, Welcome to EpicSki!

Do you think you'll have a chance to demo or will you buy before ski season?

If I were setting up a demo list for you, I'd recommend these skis to fill the need that you're describing.

Blizzard Samba = My hot pick for the upcoming season

Atomic Century

Salomon Geisha

 - For Starters. I'm sure I'll think of more.

The Volkl Kenja is a great ski if you want something that rips groomers and dabbles off piste, and its a great ski to compliment one of the skis I mentioned, but the other skis are going to be more nimble when you head off piste.

Don't overlook:

Volkl Kiku and Aura (wider than the kenja and probably better suited to what you are looking for)

DPS Nina 99 (if youve got the disposable income)

Atomic Elysian (little sis of the century with a 95 waist)

If you are looking to ski pow in Japan I would definitely go bigger (110-120 in the waist).

Check out (GF's top picks):

DPS Yvette 112

DPS Lotus 120

Atomic Millenium

Moment Reagan

Salomon Rockette 115

My GF is on the DPS lotus 120 in 178 and the Nina 99 in 168. She loves them both and we ski about 50/50 at the resort and in the bc. She wouldn't want the 120 as an everyday ski (unless she was heli skiing every day) but she loves it in the deep stuff. The 99 is her go to every day ski on or off the resort and she also has a 155 SL skis for those icy EC days we get.

The DPS Yvette 112, Atomic Millenium and Salomon Rockette115 are also skis I'd suggest, but I've not been on the Moment Reagan or the Lotus 120, so can't say on those.

But these are all skis that will be good compliments to someone who has a front side ski.  The OP says she wants to replace her current ski with something "all mountain, with an off piste bias"
