If you know where to look online, then right now there are some great deals on the following skis:
2012 Rossignol S7 (188cm)
2012 Nordica Unleashed Hell (185cm)
2012 Salomon Rocker 2 (184cm)
I’m interested in buying one of them as a dedicated powder ski. Normally I like to demo first before buying, but these skis will probably be sold out before the first snow fall. Any opinions on these skis from posters who have actually skied them would be appreciated.
About me: 5’9.5” 180# male age 49 upper advanced skier. Ski 40 to 50 days per season (includes 25 days teaching). Ski everything at average speeds except ice & the steepest double blacks.
I ski in the Pacific Northwest (Crystal & Mt Hood). Think “Cascade Concrete”, which is about the same as “Sierra Cement”.
As a reference, I have demoed more than once the Rossi S3 @ 178cm. It was stupid easy to ski in boot deep to knee deep powder. I enjoyed the S3’s level of dampness / liveliness. However, the S3 can’t handle the crud we have in the PNW, and I can only guess how it would do on a heli-ski trip.
Here are my priorities for the ski, with the highest priority listed first:
- Ski resort powder (10 to 18 inches)
- Heli-ski trip
- Cut up resort powder
- Pacific Northwest crud
If none of these skis can handle Pacific Northwest crud, then that’s okay. But if one ski can, then I might lean towards that ski.
Thanks for the help.
