I hacked my mom's best iron today!

A couple of weeks ago, Renenkel posted this thread showing how he made a precision control for his wax iron:  http://www.epicski.com/t/113462/homemade-precision-wax-i

That got me thinking I should do something similar, but I don't have a box full of electronic controls I can use.  Nevertheless, I took my mom's best iron apart and found that the control in it is just a simple bimetallic strip with a fulcrum on a fixed bracket, with a height adjustment.  I bent the bracket to make the circuit disconnect quicker, and adjusted the height so that the cam control is usable only in lower heat ranges.  It works way better, and it only took about 10 minutes.

Just don't try waxing skis with it or it won't be your mom's best iron any more.

Interesting experiment but probably not the smartest thing you've ever done.

I think she'll like it.  She probably won't use it until she gets her s7's out of storage.

If this were the smartest thing I've ever done, I would have been homeless by now.

Cool, Bode Klammer!  And a lot simpler than my overwrought extravagance! smile.gif  I'm glad to have been an inspiration.  Reminds me of a sticker I have on my helmet....

Cheers!
