24” Overnight. No Crowds. One run. Where you going? - Page 2

At Squaw the canonic first run is always Nose to Fingers (but that's the run for the monster huck crowd.) I personally will stick to KT22, but my choice would be the Olympic Lady area, or the West Face. Both are really steep and unlike the Fingers part you keep your skis in contact with snow the whole time.

For just one run, where ever I have a season pass...

Which run I would choose, I would probabbly base that on which way the snow game in from,  how windy, how warm it was, and how I am feeling. If they are are reporting 24" chances are you can find some 40" deep lines if you know where to go.

Well, KT-22 has only 1800' of vertical, which puts it in a different league from most of what's mentioned.  But, since alexzn has mentioned it, here's my take: Egg Carton to GS Chutes to Powder Horn to Schimmelpfennig Bowl, repeat.  No time in the air and no time on the cat track.  As someone pointed out: too long and you'll need to take a break.

Pretty much any line off the tram at Snowbird.  Not too particular with those conditions, so long as it doesn't fall on my head.

I caught it in conditions like that one day 40 years ago and been chasing after the encore  ever since.  1st tracks on Great Scott with 3'+ is even better than it sounds.

The upper tram at Les Grands Montets, Chamonix.

Even on a non-powder day with a wait to get on, I remember it being well worth it...

Based on what I have skied in bounds I would have to go with something at breck though If you can link runs u have a couple options.

I guess I would have to go with Peak 7 Bowl to Ore bucket.

Although Lake chutes to Way out is also a sick run. After that the mountain gets a little too flat for 24in

Whistler bowl > Shale Slope >Upper and Lower Insanities. (At Whistler, obviously.)

Not on the same level as some of these, but something I haven't done in years.  The Gondola line at Silver Mountain (I'm calling it in bounds since you end up back at the Gondola :).  Start at the bottom of Ross' Run, duck or jump the rope, straight down the Gondola line to the ravine.  Now in my fantasy, it's as good as it was 10 years ago, so the river bed is not full of bushes and undergrowth like it is now, so there is an awesome single track zig zagging the riverbed all the way to the Compression towers and Gateley's driveway in Wardner.  From here the plows have come, but they didn't drop any gravel, so you can ski through town Sherpas JP Auclair style until about Hilltop and Main St., where the old trolley pics you up for a short ride back to the Gondola base.

Powerline to Elizabeth park would work too, but it's a longer drive back to town and you gotta have a car pick you up.

^^^^ the correct answer.

rendezvous bowl>  corbets> expert chutes> to paintbrush > toilet bowl > lower tram line back to tram , pretty much sums up JH in a nut shell.

Take the Tram at Canon, admire the view on the way up. Get off, drop down to Kinsman Glade and enjoy the powder through trees all the way down to the tram base.

Or maybe Ski Dubai. How many people could say they skied on 24" of powder at an indoor resort?

Wouldn't the powder be outside, on the roof? smile.gif

There's some nice hills in Costa Rico. Where would you go ?  It looks steep in many places.

In the Tahoe area, one of the best pow runs I have had early season was on KT22 3 or 4th chair down Mosley's. I was the first person there as usually those first few chairs go to Fingers or GS Bowl (Cheryl). With that nice steep pitch and about 2000' vert, it's a great run.

Does heli skiing count as "inbounds?" Cause I've gotten way bigger lines in their boundaries. Better than anything in the lower 48.

Take the hike into Devil's Castle at Alta !!!

Well I'm probably moving to La Fortuna this coming week and Arenal volcano looks like it would be pretty sick with two feet of snow.

Two feet of fresh with no base underneath = core shots.

We've just created a new category of skis. I can see the thread now "Rocks Skis with 110mm or more under foot?"

Hard to believe, huh? That was a great ESA...

Not only that, but quite a bit of it is so flat it does not make for good powder skiing.

I love the creativity on this one...

With this type of thinking, the lift line of Whiteface’s Cloudsplitter Gondola would be wicked. From the top of the lift, take Approach and head to the woods right above Freeway. Cut to the gondola line right above the depression and point it to the base. 2400’ of vertical, great pitch, a few small cliffs on the liftline. FUN FUN FUN.

Mondays thru west bowl and then down the peak to creek at Whistler Mtn. but it would have to the first run because it would be tracked out by the second

get off my run. But actually most turn off at the road back to mid station. Your good until mid day below that.

Snowbird, tram to the top.

A lot of "depends" here:
-What does the sky look like? I get a lot of days here with 24 fresh where the sky's gray (that's why there's no people). Any serious descent on a day like that is pretty dicey due to the visibility.

-What was the base before the storm? I might be tempted to go for,  say Catamount to Lynx or something if there was a good base before that 24 hit.

-What are the avy conditions? Anything in the Alps, even inbounds, would depend on that.

-What's your definition of "in bounds"? Marked on the map? Patrolled? Controlled?

Short answer that people here would recognize: Hobacks.
