So with snow already falling and snowmaking activities now only 8 days away, where will the first WROD open and where???
It’s likely Loveland or A Basin dukin’ it out, I'll say October 7.
However, maybe we’ll see another dark horse like Wolf Creek? I believe they opened last season with 600 acres and 3 feet of fresh…

App Ski Mtn. is Gearing up for 2012-13!
With ski season almost 2 months away, several weather forecasts, including Accuweather and the Farmer's Almanac are forecasting that "temperatures will be much colder this winter from the East Coast westward." Accuweather Long Range Expert, Joe Bastardi, is saying that "a combination of factors that parallel the precursors to historically cold winters" makes him believe "there is a significant chance for particularly frigid winters in 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 into 2014-2015..." Bastardi said these winters could be similar to winters of the late 1970s.
This season's outlook is very promising!
Our 51st season is scheduled to begin on Friday, November 16th, with a projected closing date of Sunday, March 24. Night sessions are scheduled to begin on our first day of the season, weather permitting. We hope to begin making snow during the first good cold snap after Halloween.
While still offering the convenience of our 8-hr Flex Ticket, we are excited to provide our members and guests the best snow conditions possible by implementing a new late-afternoon grooming schedule in which we will groom the majority of our slopes. We will accomplish this by closing one or two slopes at a time while keeping the majority of slopes open for the uninterrupted enjoyment of our guests. We introduced this on a trial basis last season, and believe that with 2 or 3 snowcats, we will resurface the majority of slopes between 4:30 and 6 pm.
We are also offering two extra Midnight Blast sessions on the Friday & Saturday after Thanksgiving, in addition to December 26 through 30, as well as Friday and Saturday nights in January and February.
Midnight Blast is Back!
App Terrain Park will offer several new park features again this season, including a custom feature built by Never Summer Snowboards. The parks will be hosting several custom events throughout the season, including the signature Shred for the Cup series, Fresh Friday sessions, and Ladies Park Sessions, which will now take place during both the day and night for added variety.
Appalachian will be offering a special deal to all park riders who wish to purchase their park pass at our 15th annual Tent Sale. The $5 park pass fee can be applied to any snowboard or ski equipment, outerwear, and/or helmets at the tent sale. Show your 2012-13 park pass receipt for discount.
Prior to our annual Tent Sale and Ski/Snowboard Swap, our Alpine Ski Shop will offer 2012-13 members and passholders an exclusive preview night on Thursday, October 18 from 4 pm to 8 pm. The sale for the general public will begin on Friday, October 19 and continue through Sunday, October 28.
We hope to begin ice skating on Thanksgiving Day on a regular schedule (12 Noon-2 pm, 2:30-4:30 pm, and 7-9 pm), and will end ice skating on Sunday, March 17. On Christmas Day and Night, we will continue to offer ice skating on a regular schedule although our slopes are not open.
On New Year's Eve join us for our 21st annual fireworks celebration including a pyrotechnics show by world famous Zambelli International, torchlight parade, skiing and snowboarding until 11:30 pm, a special New Year's Eve restaurant menu, and an extra moonlight ice skating session from 9:45pm to 11:45pm.
