Sun Valley Early Season Packages

Sun Valley has announced their early season packages:

http://www.sunvalley.com/trip-planner/deals/

$229 ppdo, 4 nights lodging (at Sun Valley Lodge or Inn) and 3 days lifts over Thanksgiving

$79 ppdo, lodging and lift ticket until Dec. 21. This is a good deal.

Conditions for Thanksgiving are as usually as follows:

Normal (70%): Upper College, then Flying Squirrel to Warms Springs base or Mid River Run to River Run Base plus Dollar Mountain, all on man made snow.

Worst (20%): Lower River only or Closed. Worst year was opening top to bottom on Dec 10.

Best (10%): Same as normal, plus Roundhouse Slope and Lower Canyon, Warm Springs top to bottom within a few days or a week. This was last year.

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, expect pretty much all the Snowmaking runs to open, plus a few of the others, but probably not Bowls. Seattle Ridge normally opens the week before Christmas Week.

Thanks for the notice. That early season package is so tempting--even if conditions are less than optimal, it's so cheap it would be worth it. I thought about that last year, too. They posted their ski free package as well, which is the same price as last year and what we've been doing the past few years (and will for sure do again this year).

Skiing Bald Mountain and staying at the SV Lodge should be on every skier's bucket list. I've really enjoyed my times there. However, I do prefer their end of season deals when the settled snowpack makes it possible to ski more of the mountain at similar savings.

Sadly, I will mis those packages.  I'll probably be there Dec 28-30.

Happily, I will be going to SV anyway, after a week in Utah.  Nice to know they should have most of the mountain open by then.

If anyone is thinking about their ski free package for regular season, book soon--I booked today and there are a ton of blackout dates, an issue that I hadn't run into in previous years. The reservationist said they have a lot of conferences booked this year and so Lodge availabilty is limited.

I'm very tempted by the early season package and there are no blackout dates for that, but I'd like to see what the snow situation is like as we get closer.

Baldy got 8" yesterday. I don't think they have started seriously blowing snow, except for testing.
