Magnum 7.6 IQ vs. 8.0TI

Thread Starter

I got to demo the 8.0's on our traditional eastern ice/hardpack and thought they were great. I was just getting ready to order and saw great reviews on the 7.6 TI. I am 6'3 200lbs and planned to order the 179's. Would the smaller waist of the 7.6 be a better fit for eastern conditions. I ski mostly at night and never in great conditions?

The 8.0Ti would be a better ski for you, while the 7.6 would be fine for the skier you are now, the 8.0 would be better for the skier you are going to become especially since you have already demoed them and liked them. You struck oil, stop drilling and BUY the 8.0Ti.

I'm at the point of thinking that I've basically outgrown my 7.6's.  They are a great ski, I just feel that I can overdrive them at times now.  So now I have to decide between the CA and TI models and the 172 or 179 length.  Given my preference for bumps and shorter turns, I'm leaning towards the CA / 172 length, but I'd like to find a place to demo them at some point this year.

Kev, as a complement to your MX88's, I would say the CA, it is slighty softer than the Ti, I really didn't notice much of a difference until I really pushed it to the limits on harder snow, and for that you will be using the MX's. For your size, I think the 181 is a better option. Let me know if you want them, we have them in stock.

I think you mean 179, not 181, right?  There is no 181 on the 8.0's, unless Blizzard's website is wrong.  I was torn between the lengths because I wanted to see how much "early rise" the tip of the 8.0's has...  We'll see what I do this winter.

p.s.  The only time the MX88's come out are when it dumps here in the east or when I go out west.

Yes, a 178..the 181 is the 8.5.

Scout73, I demoed 8.0ti x172 in some soft blue bumps at Mt. Rose this spring and fell in love. Glad to hear you had a positive experience in conditions that are more typical for my skiing, tradional eastern. KevinF I've got a pair coming from Truckee, you're welcome to take them for a spin if we could only figure out where.

Thinking of selling my Magnum 7.6 170's, 2012 model used and buying the 8.0 CA's.

Any interest? Will put a listing up soon if I decide.

They're in fantastic shape.

@ Jimmy, if you don't mind me asking, what height are you? I'm seriously considering the 8.0ti's, ski in the East, but love moguls and fun terrain...at 6' 175lbs, should I go with the 172 or 179? I think I would prefer the Ti over CA, as I'm used to some pretty stuff wood core Volants. Also, what bindings have people been using with these 8.0s?
