Anyone have any news on Bear Valley Resort in CA?

In June they laid off everyone. Their website hasn't been updated since spring and no one answers their phone number.-no phone tree or voice mail either.

Local word is that they will not open this season.

The website is up and they are selling season passes on it: http://www.bearvalley.com/season-passes/

I briefly drove by this summer when taking my kid to Wolfeboro (BV is right up the road) and everything appeared normal...but I guess it isn't from what you report.  I ski there once or twice a year just because it is easy to get to and a few families we know have houses near there.  It is a nice family resort that seems to do everything it can to meet the needs of the locals (racing, family fun, good summertime activities, etc.).  Many smaller resorts are feeling the financial squeeze right now, and I hope they are OK.  The same goes for Dodge Ridge, which has no snowmaking (no pond).  These smaller resorts definitely fill an important need.

I found this article today that says the owners have until Oct. 15th to submit their annual plan to the Forest Service:

It seems the locals are in the dark.

I read that also. Good to hear. However, no lift maintenance yet and with the track record of that place, I would not be comfortable visiting Bear. My worst "being stuck on a lift" story was at Bear four years ago. Twnty plus minutes in snow/sleet at the to of the chair. Both hands went numb and three fingers took a week to recover
