Christmas Skiing Road Trip ?

My wife and I are living in Arizona and just got back into skiing after a long lay off. She grew up skiing on the East Coast and I grew up skiing in Europe, so neither of us are really familiar with this part of the country. Last season we mainly went to Snowbowl and Sunrise in AZ for weekend ski trips with the kids.

We have the week off before Christmas this year, the Grandparents are coming to watch the kids, and we are planning an early season skiing road trip. Within about eight hours of Phoenix we have Big Bear in CA, Brianhead in southern UT, Telluride, Wolf Creek and Purgatory (Durango) in CO and all the resorts around Taos in NM. These are all within an easy day's drive for us. Places like Mammoth, Salt Lake and the I70 corridor would require a stop over and limit our skiing time, but may be worth the extra effort?

Obviously we plan to check the snowfall before decide where to go, but wanted to know if anyone had any advice or suggestions for us ?

Thanks,

BW.

The week before Christmas is usually very slow.  You shouldn't have any problems getting accommodations last minute.

Just go with the snow!

Prior history wouls suggest that Wolf Creek would hace the best chance of early snow but we really like the look of the Durango/Purgatory area, which would aslo put us a few hours away for Telluride.

Does anyone know if Pagosa Springs is a good place to stay for medium priced hotels and restraunts. We heard that the road to Wolf Creek can get blocked after a storm?
