Line Prophet 98 + Marker Griffon Bindings 2012 Price

Hi,

I'm heading to Banff in November to do an instructor course and hopefully stay and work for the rest of the season. I won't necessarily be using this ski to instruct on but i want a good all mountain ski to take my skiing to the next level. I'm 6ft 4" and 194lbs and I've found the Line Prophet 98 in 186cm with the Marker Griffon Bindings for £375. I'm just wondering whether anyone thinks this is a good deal??

Thanks

Good all round ski for Banff. How much is 375 pounds in Canuck money?

Or US Yen?

At current exchange rates, $600 US.  However if gear is more/less expensive in the UK, then a straight exchange rate comparison isn't necessarily relevant at all (see car prices, for example).  What's the MSRP on that gear in the UK?  You might need a response from someone in the UK to get the best idea of whether that's a reasonable price.

That`s about U$600 I don`t think this is a great deal considering US prices... how are the skis? Personally I wouldn`t by these in the US for this price used or demo skis. I`m assuming these are 2012 Prophets + 2012 Griffons, not that would make much difference compared to 2013 models, but you can probably get the same price here in the US new, although november is 3 months from now and the last year gear might be gone!

How flexible are you for buying stuff here in the US?

Sorry, yes it's about 600 in the US and Canada. The RRP for this is £595 (about 940 over there).

The skis are new but like you said, it seems cheaper buying over there. Would this still be the case come November when the season starts, or do you think I'd be able to pick up a good deal when I'm over there?

Thanks everyone for your input so far, it's been really helpful!

$600 isn't bad. You might be wise to contact Line dealers in Calgary and Banff right now to see if they will do you a matching or better deal and hold them 'til you arrive. It would also save some hassles and maybe $ flying with skis. You can get their contact info online. The dealers are:

Banff     - Monod Sports

            - Mountain Magic

Calgary - Fresh Sports Ltd

            - Mountain Bike City

           - Ski Cellar

That`s a good idea. I would say it`s too risky to wait until November, last year skis might be gone specially because there were no changes for the Line Prophet 98 so unless people are dying for new graphics there is no reason to buy Prophet 98 2013 instead of 2012.

Trying to get the deal done, and have them holding the equipment until November is a good option and as said you also only have to deal with the skis in your trip back to Europe.

In Canada those skis sold for about $800 and bindings about $250, mounting $50, so the best "deal" might have been about $900 including mounting+tax. So for $600 I'd be all over it.

Did you buy these skis in the UK ? I am in the market for the same model. Are you able to mention the sellers name ?

Here is something to compare to:

http://www.monodsports.com/buy/line-skis-influence-105-2011-12-new

(Line Influence 105 w/o bindings in a 179, new at Monods for $589)

Mountain Magic in Banff has Line Profit 98 for $499 w/o binding.

When you consider the probable extra cost for bringing your skis on the plane, this might be your best bet.

I would suggest that you call Mountain Magic and you could probably get a good deal on some 2012 bindings

Good luck

Many thanks - I will contact these guys.  This is a great forum. I am delighted to read comments from you guys. I have not skied as much as I would like in recent years and am going for it 'big time' in 2013.

Cheers,
