This is pretty cool for someone who likes to take a few different ski trips each year...

http://www.themountaincollective.com/

The Mountain Collective Pass
Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows • Aspen/Snowmass • Alta • Jackson Hole

We are proud to announce that we have joined forces with three other inspiring independent resorts and created the Mountain Collective. When you buy the Mountain Collective pass you get:

  • 4 dream destinations
  • 2 free days of skiing/riding at each Collective resort
  • Unlimited 50% discount on lift tickets at each of the Collective resorts

And then for those of us with Squawlpine passes already...

Upgrade to a Gold Tahoe Super Pass and you'll be entitled to an unlimited 50% discount on lift tickets at each of the Collective resorts.

Jay just beat me to the announcement.
This pass can be a good deal for someone who is taking trips during the season and also wants to get some extra 50% off days locally. I do wonder why Snowbird is not on the list. But it looks like the fight with Vail fir the skier's soul and wallet just escalated a bit. Happy summer to everyone.

What I don't get is them offering the upgrade "deal" for Super Pass holders.  Let's see, I paid $459 for my silver pass last spring and it would be $290 more (now) to upgrade to Gold... to get 50% off at other resorts.  Or I could pay $60 more and just buy this pass outright and get 2 free days everywhere else.  Someone in the marketing department didn't think that one through very much...

Wow, that is a great deal for some of the best resorts in North America!  It's nice to see some of the independents teaming up to fight the evil empire!

I just got this from Jackson Hole and Squaw in my email.

This is pretty darn awesome for someone who wants to do some traveling.  Pretty Stoked for the possibilities  between these resorts.

From Facebook...

"Squaw Valley Hi Jay, those 50% tickets are only for the person who purchased the Mountain Collective pass."

So you really have to hit at least 2 of the locations to make this pass worth the money... although the 25% off lodging could make a difference depending on how many places that includes.

Hmmm...this sets my mind in motion.

One (such as myself) could fly from Seattle (in my case) to Reno,

ski two days at Squalpine,

take the Amtrak overnight to SLC (sleep on the train, cheaper than flying and paying for overnight accommodations),

ski two days at Alta,

take the Amtrak again to Glenwood Springs (snoozing again),

rent a car or get some other ground transportation to Aspen/Snowmass for two days,

take the train back to SLC,

then rent a car to Jackson.

two more skiing days,

then fly back to Seattle.

Do it all in about 10-days, longer if I want to add a few extra days at 50%.

Plus, if you fly into Reno early enough you can ski for free at Squaw / Alpine that same day.

a point of clarification requested: is the up front cost applicable to each location or is the $350 a one-time hit up front and then you get 2 "free" tickets (I assume from one resort) and all other resort tickets are then 50% off?    Sorry my ADD mind went reeling on this one.

From ESPN (see: http://espn.go.com/action/freeskiing/story/_/id/8266269/new-mountain-collective-pass-four-major-ski-areas) :

Called the Mountain Collective Pass, the new deal is a $349 pass that offers two single day lift tickets to Aspen/Snowmass, Colo., Jackson Hole, Wyo., Alta, Utah, and Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows, Calif. Once the two tickets are used up, passholders can redeem 50 percent off discounts on an unlimited number of lift tickets. Passholders will also receive lodging discounts at all four destinations.

The pass is being sold through an exclusive partnership with Liftopia at Themountaincollective.com.

Alta ski area in Utah is one of only three resorts in the country that doesn't allow snowboarders. According to Alta spokesperson Connie Marshall, if a purchaser of the Mountain Collective Pass is a snowboarder, he or she won't receive any compensation for not being able to use the Alta tickets that come with the pass. "Alta Ski Area is excited to be a part of the Mountain Collective for a multitude of reasons," Marshall told ESPN.com. "Our most satisfying outcome will be the introduction of our unique skiers-only mountain to skiers who understand the attributes of the collective passions our four destinations share."

The four independent resorts teamed up this month based on research of where skiers most wanted to visit.

"This pass is an unprecedented collaboration," said Alpine Meadows spokesperson Jenny Kendrick. "It's the first time these four resort destinations, which arguably offer the best skiing and riding in the world, have partnered to offer this sort of product. Anyone who is passionate about skiing and riding has these resorts on their bucket list -- and what an amazing offer this is for anyone who aspires to visit these winter destinations."

All four resorts said it was an easy decision to take part in the collaboration. "From a business point of view, we feel it will help us to extend our reach beyond the normal channels an independent resort can initiate," Jackson Hole's Brand Director Anna Olson told ESPN.com. "We also feel this will stimulate trial by providing an easy option for skiers and riders who have not previously experienced Jackson Hole in the winter."

Kids aged 12 and under can get the Mountain Collective pass for $229. Current pricing is available only until Nov. 19.

As I see it, you pay $349 and get two free tickets worth $94-$100 (Jackson Hole).  For the sake of simple math, let's assume the free tickets are worth $200.  If you use those tickets that means you are out $149, which is the prepaid cost of getting 50% off on your future lift tickets.  How good is the deal?  That depends upon how many days you ski to make up the sunk cost of the $149 that gives you the right to get 50% off on lift tickets plus lodging discounts.

2 tickets at each resort = 8@$75= $600!

Two free tickets at each resort is a great deal. I must have misread the email we all received from Liftopia, since it didn't say "each" resort making this confusing to Finndog and me.  Are you sure it is two freebies to each resort?

Update:  I just called Liftopia and spoke to Dan.  Two free tickets to each resort.

This is a great way to get 8 free days if you can visit all these resorts and/or don't mind AMTRAK like Desired Username above. Alta lift tickets cost at least $70 (Alta alone and not combined with Snowbird), Jackson Hole lift tickets cost $94, Squaw lift tickets will likely cost  at least $90 (only SuperPass rates on the website as of today) and Aspen lift tickets cost $98.  OK, we can all get cheaper rates but still, using all these tickets come to a great savings that are even greater than SHREDHEAD shows above.

3/4 of a 1/5 = 3/20 or 0.15

.75 (or 3/4) times .20 (or 1/5) = 0.15

This a fantastic deal, a no brainer if you can hit even two of these in the upcoming season (at least vs. Window price).

By my math, this deal beats the window price in 5-8 days, (longer at Alta ~ $70/day, quicker at $95-100 day)

It will be interesting to see the numbers they get, as well as any impact on season pass holders.

The Mountain Collective™ is available for just $349 for adults

and $229 for children when purchased before November 19, 2012.

I just realized that I could use my 2 Squaw / Alpine free days on days that are normally blacked out on my silver pass.  Interesting...

Also consider that additional days at Squaw would be 50% off.    At that rate I'm thinking about 10-12 visits before it makes sense to get a season pass.  Yes/no?

thanks but .15 of what? shouldn't that be about 75% of the total 5th bottle?

That depends upon when you ski:

- The Bronze Pass is $429 with 16 blackout dates

- The Silver Pass is $519 with 10 blackout dates.

- The Gold Pass is $749 with zero blackout dates.

The Mountain Collective Pass (MCP) pass is $349 with two free days at each resort.  So  skiing only 12 days only at Squaw costs you 10 days at $45 (roughly 50% off since I don't know what their daily price will be) plus the $349 or $799.  The breakeven of the MCP to a resort seasons pass really depends upon the type of pass you get, and the days you want to ski that may be "blacked out" with the lower priced passes.  But if you use the MCP for free tickets at any of the other resorts, and you don't expect to ski a zillion days at Squaw/Alpine (or your home resort), it may make sense to forget about purchasing a season pass and ski at 50% off using the MCP..
