|I was wondering if there are any skis that are universally praised? The first two that come to mind are the Atomic R:11 and the Volkl Supersport 6 Star. Please add to this list or add your $0.02 to see what skis emerge as favorites...
Although many might praise the skis you referred to(and some may not), few skis can credibly elicit universal praise except after a sufficient period of time has passed to fairly label certain ones as stand-outs.
Some skis with great skiing properties prove to have durability issues. Some are "great" merely because thet have great marketing departments or simply a larger market share for other reasons. Some really great eastern skis are not well received in the west and vice versa.
As with new auto purchases, there is a great deal of buyer affirmation that goes along with the purchase of new skis that tends to cloud objectivity. Many buy their new skis at pre-season sales and have not skied them yet.
A lot of folks here also have their personal favorites, myself included. However, skiers come in all different sizes and skill levels. And the ski market is much more segmented today than a decade ago. Your question provides an interesting opportunity for people to share their personal favorites but is not likely to produce the answer you seek.
