How about an eastern gathering? Stowe, Mad River Valley? okemo-Stratton, for us old folks?

Why not? I may be at Stratton for a few days this winter...

Nolo at Stratton? Now I don't feel like such a gaper!

I think that was a compliment. th_dunno-1[1].gif

I doubt I will be able to make the main EpicSki gathering this year, but I may be able to swing an East Coast gathering if it is during a time I can get off some days from work.  I'd certainly be interested in making it to an East Coast gathering this year if I can.

Evansilver,

You can always come out to the Mid-Atlantic gathering, which is a mix of EpicSki and DCSki Skiers.  Usually the Gathering is held at Blue Knob in PA, but last year it was at Timberline in West Virginia.  I don't think location and dates have been firmed up for this season's gathering  yet.

Retro day or maybe morning?  biggrin.gif

Here's to hoping I can get three day's off.  Big Sky is calling, plus I can see Sheena, Tromano, and the rest of the family.!!  Nolo, I am sure Sheena would love a little ski break!!

I am on for babysitting at Big Sky. My older daughter is getting married later this month (eek.gif) so little ones may be in my not too distant future.

If you guys want to make it official so I could take it to the mountain manager, I could probably get discounted tickets at Magic for everyone who signs up for a gathering ahead of time fwiw.

Also I know there are several people who would totally step up to lead a few different skill groups, show visitors around and share the goods.

Just a thought.  Stratton is up to I think $92 on the weekends now and even before the discount Magic is holding strong at $59, so the money difference is pretty huge.  It also has a pretty central location and cheap, clean lodging close by.

Don't be scared you'd be scraping down rocks and such either if that's not your thing, Magic's groomers and snowmaking have come lightyears in the past few seasons.  Not even joking when I say the grooming at Magic was better than the grooming at Stratton last year as now all factors going in are pretty much the same, but with 1/25th the amount of skiers to beat up the trails it stays super nice and doesn't get scraped off.  Our new groomer and operator staff is mind blowingly skilled.  Night and day difference form the Magic of even just a few seasons ago, no joke!

So let me know if that sounds good to you guys and gals.  Even if the group didn't end up being huge I'd love to show you guys around and hook it up with a deal.  smile.gif

Sounds good, but what dates would that be possible?

I would very much be interested in early season possibilities;  what can Magic do for us up to the week b4 Xmas?

Well that's is 100% flexible.  I'd say sometime after New Year's would probably be best just to avoid the whole xmas season hassle and to let the snow base build a bit (having the trees filled in by the time it comes around would be ideal of course) but nothing is set in stone and I'm just throwing it out there to get people talking and thinking about what would work best.  Whatever census we come to, I will make it happen on my end for sure.  I think sometime in January would probably be best though, all factors considered.

I'll find out this weekend what kind of discount I could get for us just so we have a baseline number to roll with.

Magic is also great at theme days.  Just check out the videos from cape day, moustache day, retro day and costume day for some good laughs so if you guys want to get goofy and fun with it, don't hold back!  icon14.gif  biggrin.gif

What dates? And what do they charge for 70+ seniors?

Hmmm.... I may be able to make a January Eastern gathering.  Especially if it is only a long weekend.  Put me down as interested in a gathering in Southern Vermont.

No set dates as of yet, but as I mentioned earlier, a mid-to-late January date would probably be the most fruitful conditions wise.

Also I checked and Magic's regular senior rate is $39 for a weekend day ticket, and $70 for a 2 day weekend pass.  I should be able to get it even lower if we can all agree on dates and make it official.

Glad to hear people are receptive to coming out!

Oh hey, I remember you guys!  We got your wife to ski the Twilight Zone!  Hope she took that confidence boost and ran with it, she did great.  icon14.gifbiggrin.gif

Do Work,

Yes that was us.  You got her to ski Twilight Zone.  She would never have followed me!  But since then she has really started to push herself and has even fallen in love with the trees.

A big thanks,

Joseph

PS.  We should bump into you a lot this year!

Joe, that is FANTASTIC news!  Love hearing I helped someone push themselves into being more adventurous, she certainly was proud to have made it down in one piece and it seemed to help her be more confident in her ability assesment.  She's a better skier than she gives herself credit for.  biggrin.gificon14.gif

You guys get Magic season passes this season?

I would love to ski Magic if I can swing it!  If anyone is in the NYC area, I'd also be up for Plattekill or Belleayre some time.

Do Work and ADKS,

It's funny that Plattekill came up as that's where I have my season pass.  My sister-in-law lives conveniently in Windham which of course saves us a ton.  We always, however, stop at Magic on our trips up to Northern Vermont.  And I sure hope these trips will be more frequent this year than last!

Love Platty. Hope they get snow this year. Last year was a bust. Wanted to go to Magic a few years back, but not much natural. Skied Bromley instead, which was great with my daughter.

I like the idea of a Magic gathering.  I've only been there once and I'd like to go back.

When was the last time you went if you don't mind my asking?

I think it was early season, the season before last.

I remember hitting a lot of small rocks on the swoop to a flat section at the end of Magician, and then saying, "well, its not too bad if you dont turn" and doing it again because most of the trail was so fun.

Acutally, I may have been there twice, once by myself and once with my son.  I can probably figure it out by looking through my photo albums...

Hahaha yeah that was pretty much par for the course on the Wizard runout at that time.  Also eating your knees on waterbars used to be the norm.  Glad to say that the snowmaking is top to bottom as of right now, which hasn't been the case since before it closed and if last year's vast improvement of on-trail surfaces was any indication, this year's pistes will be primo.  The new winch cat they have does so much better than the old Piston Bully it isn't even a comparison.

But don't worry, there's still rocks on the really steep stuff if you're into that ;)

I pulled the trigger on a Sugarbush pass this year; wouldn't mind if the East Coast gathering returned to Northern VT either...

Hey Eddie, Let me know if your are ever over at the Bush on midweek days, I'll try and get over there for some laps with you.

Dowork, I'd come down and check out Magic, available  mid week only. Anybody who comes up to Snowbowl mid week or weekends I'll give them a tour.
