Which length should be in my new Head Rev 85 Pro? 170 or 177

Hi, I'm Phil who come form Taiwan and just start skiing for 1 year. Now, I'm a rookie ski instructor in Australia.

Because I might go back to Japan for next snow season, I think I might need a new pair of ski for powder.

That will be my first brand new ski. Now I use my first, HEAD C210 in 170cm. I am not sure that 66mm width in waist is way too narrow or not.

What's the big different in fat waist and narrow waist? Easier for edging or carving?

Anyway, because I can get a good price so I'd like to try HEAD Rev 85 Pro. But which length should be in my new Head Rev 85 Pro? 170 or 177?

I'm 6 feet tall and 182 pounds weight. I like to do short turns, skiing in bumps or groomed.

I'm not really good at carve but I'd like to improve my carve skill. Due to slim skis, I rarely go to tree run, off-piste or backcountry.

Any advice will appreciate and forgive my poor English.

Thank you.

The 177 would suit your size better.

Interesting, skiers these days don't want to go off-piste if they don't have the "right" ski. I was a passionate ski bum in the 80's, only ever owned one pair of skis at a time, the last pair I owned in the 80's was Dynamic VR27's, SL model, 195 cms (I'm 174 cms tall), a wood-core fairly stiff racing model, used to take it into the powder all the time, had loads of fun.

Stopped skiing in '88, took it up again this year, and now find there's a bewildering array of widths, cambers, flexes, twin-tips, etc.

So it looks like if you're not going to go for a quiver, then you need something like the Head Rev 85 Pro. I found this thread 'cos I saw the ski on the Head website and was looking for further info.

To answer your query, Phil, I don't know, sorry. I think 167-170 cms is a good length for me (ex-advanced skier, now probably upper-intermediate level but hoping to work my way back to "advanced"!), so 177 could be good for a guy who's 9 cms taller than me.

Can you tell me where you found the Head Rev 85 Pro at a good price? I might get a pair too!

Thanks!

Mike

whoa, $600 with bindings, that's a good price!!

I was thinking of getting the superseded head model, i.peak 84, with Tyrolia PR12 bindings, that I've seen online for US$459, but then I have to pay for a coupla hundred dollars freight to Perth.

I guess your Head dealer was located in Sydney or Melbourne? No Head ski dealers in Perth unfortunately (no snow ski dealers of any description here frown.gif)
