Adding plugs to my boots - wanna make sure I'm on the right track

G'day. I have Head Raptor 130RS boots stock (only one plug). I was about 190lbs when I got them, now I weigh in at 210lbs and my skiing has improved from being able to get down a groomed black run moderately comfortably to skiing double-black diamond runs in bowls with confidence. Time to add the other two plugs and I just want to make sure I'm on the right track with the mod.

My plan is to:

1. drill a hole in the shell.

2. Drop the plug in.

Only two small questions:

a) Dremel tool or drill? I'm thinking I'll want to use a slower speed to avoid melting the plastic and probably a sharp bit so am inclined to use the drill.

b) Do you recommend using sealant or lock-tite? Pretty sure that won't be necessary but while I'm here thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

i guess you mean adding the bolts to the spine??

With the metal spine in place, drill through the holes in the metal right through the shell with a 6-7mm drill keep it centred

remove the metal work from the back of the boot and then drill again the 2 holes that you have just drilled, this time with a 10mm bit (10mm is needed for the slines in the inserts but is too much to drill through the metalwork)

replace the metal spine and then press the inserts into the shell from the inside, insert bolts through the metal spine and tighten

a small amount of low strength thread lock is a good thing but so long as you keep an eye on things is not really required, drill rather than anything else, you shouldn't melt it so long as you use a reasonably sharp bit

Thanks! Great directions. I really appreciate the detail on drill bit size and procedure.
