I've got a bunch of windsurfing equipment I haven't used in years. It's just too inconvenient. It's a long ride for me to get anywhere where the wind is halfway consistant. Then, not only does it have to be blowing hard, but it has to blow from the right direction. Otherwise you'll end up 20 miles out at sea or 10 miles down the beach/river/bay, and have no way to get home. But it is one hell of an adreniline rush!
kb1dqh - yeah, it's just water. The problem is when you are hooked into your harness and get slammed. It doesn't really hurt, but you can damage equipment. One day, some friends and I were goofing off on a pretty breezy day, and tried to see how far we could launch ourselves. So we rigged up sails that were too big for the wind, would let it overpower us, and go flying off the boards. I think we were getting thrown about 30 feet from the boards.
