The TGR Tangent (from EpicSki Stickers -- design help needed!)

Thread Starter

Someone on TGR once described EpicSki as "A safe place for thirteen year olds to post".

In the same vein I would call TGR "A safe place for 40 somethings to behave like 18 year olds."

One of the unique things about EpicSki is the annual gatherings. It is great to meet in person and get to better know internet friends, so...

"Skiing passion getting together on the slopes and on line since ...."

"Be with me, ski with me". (inspired by a non skiing ex gf.)

its really not that bad., they just don't tollerate the stuff that goes on here. You won't see a helmet thread or 13 threads on the same ski etc. I have never had a problem posting there

Methinks you're taking it too seriously, just a funny little jab. There are definitely some 40-somethings acting like teens, same way there are certainly some 13-year-olds posting here. That's why it's funny.

Actually, considering some of the TGR that gets injected in this thread and the forum in general, I submit a new spin on an old theme - EPIC SKI: No one cares that you post on TGR.

Do you post there? I do,. for some reason people think TGR is a mean-spirited site but its not at all. I am just trying to dispel that misnomer.

Mean-spirited is not the same as juvenile. :-) That's what the poster was quipping, I thought.

(And, for the record, I have no problem with juvenile ...)

Maybe the TGR-Epic rift could be "healed" by offering a special maggot price on the finished Epicski stickers.   biggrin.gif

OK, here is the edited, updated version. "TRG, a safe place for 40 somethings to behave like 18 year olds, often with hilarious results!

Excellent Idea, I vote that Greg should post this offer up on TGR......  ROTF.gif

This subject can take on a life of its own, so we gave it a separate thread.

The TGR / EPIC feud is ridiculous considering how many of us post in both forums, myself included (as well as some of the most frequent posters here at Epic).

The biggest difference, really... I'd say Epic suffers fools (aka JONGS) a bit too much while TGR is a bit too harsh in the other direction.

TGR and Epic have not had "differences" in years, it is about relevant now as the BETA/VHS battle.

Bringing World Cup caliber ski equipment and service to all skiers - from pro ski racers to everyday all mountain skiers and into the...

And I suppose newschoolers is the DVD, and both TGR and Epic will soon be obsolete

Is there a forum for elementary school rippers that could represent video streaming is this ongoing analogy?

this is not as much fun now that its been stripped out.  Hey Joe, Now I'm taking this serious; we have our own thread biggrin.gif

I would suggest that the relationship between NS and EpicSki is closer than the one between TGR and EpicSki, because we're their parents.

Truth...

There are enough that age group that prefer a non-posturing approach to skiing discussion.  One is a moderator here.

I think Epicski members are more willing to be themselves, even when it's not that impressive.  You can call us jongs and gapers, but we aren't posers.  It is far more likely that the speech, tone and respect you would expect face to face, is the same as what you'll get online at Epicski.

Oh, and this...

Wait, what? Even that's a dated analogy... I haven't played a DVD in years. Maybe I should be posting more on TGR. ;)

The beta / VHS analogy should officially be updated to blu-ray / HD-DVD ...

I disagree here. Most of the kids on NewSchoolers don't want to hang out with their own parents, let alone us.

I will say there is 15% (+/- 5%) of the posters who are on BOTH Epic and TGR, less than 5% that are on New Schoolers, from either Epic or TGR

I thought of that after, it was as short lived.

Yeah ^ NS is MUCH more park focused as well.  That's a very different site.

I didn't mean that our interests are closely related, but that we gave birth to and are the sole means of support of many of the kids on NewSchoolers. eek.gif

I can read Epic at work. TGR, not so much. TGR is way more entertaining. And I have to say, in the end there's a better signal to noise ratio there than here. Way, Way, Way too many "what ski should I buy for intermediate yadayadayada" posts here on Epic.

Both have their place. But I just find TGR more entertaining to read and more fun to participate in. Less butthurt too.

I don't think anyone here could have given birth to what posts over there...that is just bad parenting.

I think the S/N ration here is better.

I have said this before....

Epicski: A restaurant that serves drinks

TGR: A bar that serves food.

See your other points, but the butthurt thing seems like rose colored glasses. I've seen the butthurt reach way more epic proportions over there than here - threads that turn into novels of bickering and ever-increasing vindictiveness with little to do with the original topic. Not to say it doesn't happen here, but it's usually quashed by a mod before it nears a dozen or two pages of off-course insults and personal attacks.

Just because someone calls it something else or denounces the idea, doesn't mean it's not the same damn thing.

Great analogy - that pretty much sums it up.  Both have their place for sure.

I find TGR very entertaining in small doses, but it wears out quickly.  So I only go there a few times a year.
