Anybody have any insight or info on the Look/Rossi bindings with the higher end toe piece? I have lots of Look PX 14's, which I haven't had a problem with. I'm thinking of buying some 15's for next year but that toe piece worries me. In pictures, I can tell the toe wings aren't split. Does this binding only release laterally? Is there any vertical or diagonal movement? Is it as safe as the "lesser" toe pieces? What is the difference? Looks website has no info on them.

I like 'um.
Not particularly interested in upward release at the toe, in fact I prefer not to have it.
Love the FKS 155 and PX15 Racing
You can kinda tell, look below...

The 15 DIN toe is a solid aluminum casting with a single pivot design. Look has had the mechanics of this toepiece in constant production for decades. It is more durable, heavier, and offers the tightest roll coupling between boot and ski of any commercially available toepiece. There are no compensation features. The PX is a split wing design with two offset pivot points that offers release capability in an almost unlimited range of upward and lateral vectors. If you favor release over retention then the PX might be said to be safer. OTH, if you prioritize retention over release then you might think the opposite.

I pretty much just stick to the bunny slopes these days, so it sounds like the PX is the safer bet.

Yes although the 15 DIN toe has occasionally been found with the PX racing heel. FWIW.....all the racing models currently use the racing version of the PX heel with the cast Alu toe in either 15 or 18 DIN versions. The Pivot is no longer widely used in racing applications although it's popularity among freeskiers has not really waned at all.

Thanks Jim,
Sorry by pivot I meant the toe not the heel
, Rossi Smash, show a good picture for the 14's and below full drive toe (wings are plastic) and the 15's and above single pivot toe.
I've had 14's can say the release hold and release are great, just that plastic is the turn off for me. Switched to the 15's for that reason only. Just a me thing
. I must say I am impressed with the Race heel design. Feels solid and locked in.
BTW my 15's are the Dynastar PX15 Race (Trouble) bindings (price was right). Dynastar to match the skis.
Gotta go with the Jones occasionally.

The green is damn sharp. In fact I am going to get skis with green in them just so I can get these bindings to match.
