Colorado and New Mexico Wild Fires (and others?)

I'm wondering about the massive fires we're seeing on the news lately.  Any of them taking out resort facilities?  Saw there is another one near Ruidoso.  Didn't one do some damage to Pajarito last summer or the summer before?

 

Let us know of you've heard of any significant damage of imminent threats to ski area facilities.

Last summer's Las Conchas fire burned into the Pajarito ski area in NM and took out a lift and some tree stands. Pajarito opened last winter, but I'm not sure where they stand on replacing the lift that went down.

The Pajarito area barely escaped immolation in 2000's Cerro Grande fire - D'oh! Also last year, the Pacheco fire in NM threatened the Santa Fe ski area, but didn't encroach.

The Little Bear fire outside of Ruidoso NM is threatening the Ski Apache area. Yesterday morning the Ski Apache webcam had some stunning stuff going on. They were running snowmaking guns full bore around the lodge, and you could see flames and smoke on the slopes above. [goggle eyes] the webcam went down around noon, but it was pretty amazing before that.

Inciweb.org is pretty much the easiest, most up-to-date website for tracking fire activity, unless you're adept at working through the semi-technical info at gacc.nifc.gov.

Oh yeah, and in 2000, Montana's Lookout Pass ski area had a fire roll into it's south side, but I don't believe any facilities were damaged...though I could be wrong about that.

And Santa Fe's ski area sits squarely in an old burn - sometime around 1890 I believe. wink.gif

No flames, but a lot of smoke, and the snowmaking guns have shut down.  Lots of burnt matchsticks at the top of the run visible from the cam.

I wonder how much they are paying the folks to head to the lodge and operate those snow gunseek.gif   I wouldn't do it for what I get paidnonono2.gif

So, I know a wildland fire crew that's hiring - they wore some people out. I'm guessing you'll pass? wink.gif
