Prepaid cell service - Switzerland (Zermatt and Saas Fee)

I wanted to se if anyone couild tell me about prepaid cell service in Switzerland. My son is going to Zermatt and Saas Fee for a seven week pre-season camp and I wanted to see about prepaid cell service so he could call/text every now and again. He will have his laptop and there "should" be internet for Skype, but having a prepaid cell SIM (for a Blackberry Curve 9300) might be a good backup plan.

 

Can I get one before he leaves or should he just get one there? Any info on carriers, rates etc.

Hi

I looked at pre-paid cell phones while visiting Zermatt.  One option is to buy an inexpensive cell phone in Zermatt from Swiss Telecom.  They have many prepaid plans, but if your son is calling the the USA a lot, its easy to burn minutes (txt is more efficent).  I have an unlocked iphone and purchased a pre-paid micro-SIM. There is a Swiss Telecom store at the post-office in Zermatt.  cmr

I went skiing in Verbier few years ago, I recalled you can buy pre-paid SIM card easily.

This sounds like the ticket. I'll get his BB unlocked and he can get the prepaid SIM there. Good to know where to go in Zermatt to pick one up.
