Who says this was the worst snow year in 20 years? Here in the PNW there is still skiing, although the talk is the snow is melting fast so they will probably be open for only two more weekends, until the second week of June. I got an new camera lens and this seemed like a good time to try it out.
As you would expect, the snow was slushy but it still had a firm base underneath it. The north facing slopes even had some ice on them. Not a perfect sunny day but enough so that shorts and short sleeves weren't uncommon. There were only two of the upper slope chairs running. You could still ski all the way to the bottom, but I don't know how long that's going to last.
Parking in dirt and mud instead of snow. Several wearing shorts. Spirits were high.
Still no snow, but I'm getting closer...
Pretty short line for getting on the gondola.
Some decided to delay their skiing by basking in the sun. The temperature reached somewhere in the 50's. It was warm when the sun was out but cool when the clouds rolled through.
Skiers at the top of the Green Valley lift.
View of Mt. Rainier and picture of the photographer.
Dressed for Spring.
The moguls were especially fun today. Very forgiving.
Shot of what the snow as like.
Getting a little bare at the base of the lift.
Back at the bottom they made a small snow bridge so you can still end up close to the lodge.
