Volant Skis - White Gold, Diamond-Finished For Sale

Hey Fellas and Fellettes,

I have recently acquired by way of chance gift, a pair of White Gold Volant Skis. They were owned by an undisclosed female anchor of CBS sports and SPEED channel.

I have listed the item very reasonably here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270984140289&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:1123

They appear to have only been used once and lightly at that. The Velvet Ski sheath is also included.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I'll allow this post, even though it violates our policy on gear swap that sales must be by established members.  While it's a unique product, I seriously doubt your chances of seeing your Buy It Now price, or even the beginning bid, but best wishes to a guy with no posting history on Epicski trying to hawk his first overpriced item on Ebay with no sales or purchase history.  th_dunno-1[1].gif

I deleted your duplicate threads, It's a slow time of year, and it might be more interesting to see if you actually have something to offer.  Never can tell where a Volant thread might go.

Thank you for your consideration, Cirque.

Admittedly, I am not involved in the world of Skiing, but I did fall down a mountain once.

I researched the product substantially before listing at that price. The new Volant White Golds market value for $2400. Do you think the problem with the sale is the Ebay Traffic or the price point? In your seasoned opinion what would you do differently?

I am trying to avoid getting hacked by the local sports-consignment shop. Any advice is most-welcome!

Thanks for not banning me bro; I saw the policy but I was in a.. slippery position.

The Velvet Ski sheath is also included.   It's called a ski bag. Good luck w/ that.

FYI - "Diamond finished" can apply to pretty much any ski. That's what we sharpen them with.

These are the 66mm waisted models and in a 170, IIRC these were the old Vertex model.

Thanks Skiers,

If anyone is interested in making an offer outside of Ebay, let me know and we can try to make a deal. Ski sheath is complimentary :)

You might want to get some better pictures.

LOL!

Seriously, you need to do more research on how ski's depreciate.

Thanks,

I called REI and the representative said that for skis of this calibre, in near perfect condition, $499 is on the low-end and $999 is generally what they would retail for. He did have some reservations about Ebay and the off-season, however. I could not make the buy it now price too low as it would discourage bidding. I will wait out the auction for the next 2.5 days and re-evaluate as necessary.

I want to thank all you Slope Sultans for your input, I really appreciate!

This is like trying to sell a Commodore 64 in mint condition only worse. Pretty narrow market but please let us know what happens.

Volant kind of fell out of favor, and the conversation here after they were purchased by Atomic, and marketed as mainly a very expensive boutique ski in Europe.   I believe the cost of these skis in the European market is well north of $1000.

My terse initial reply was mainly based on the Ebay listing, and I must have been in a foul mood.  Anyway, it would be interesting to catch back up on what Volant / Atomic has been doing to what used to be an epic line of skis.  I assume the Chubb, FB, Machete and other styles we knew so well in the eary 2000s are all gone now, and not to forget the incredible game-changing Spatula.

Depends on which year.     The White Gold has been in the lineup since 2008.     $100-$125 if that old, at best.

Calling VA.

Apparently, the bindings are mounted on the skis facing BACKWARD!  ROTF.gifroflmao.gifROTF.gifroflmao.gifROTF.gifroflmao.gifROTF.gifroflmao.gifROTF.gifroflmao.gif

Well it looks like it sort of.

But VA the Velvet Ski sheath would be so cool to own . You know your kid will need these skis soon enough.    How can you resist ?   As a Volant expert and collector what do you think they are worth  ?

VA, that's what I thought, but I think these skis are being displayed tips down.  The square tails are up.  Something does look bass ackwards.  BUT he does offer free shipping!

I'm sure they are great skis, the quality of Volants wasn't lost when their marketing emphasis changed, it was just the majority of the American market that was lost.

As for what they're worth, that is a matter of what a given person values them at. I certainly wouldn't buy them for $499, even if I was feeling very rich. The high MSRP on Volants is a marketing ploy to attract buyers who want to talk about how expensive their skis are, and how they can afford to pay for the best baubles one can ski on. The prices drop as time goes by, they end up on ebay after a couple seasons, new for what jaw709 is asking at first, then after they don't sell for months on end, $300-400 with bindings, and often sit unsold at those prices too.

BTW asking a REI what to ask for your skis is kind of silly,  they are RETAILERS, and by selling skis, you become their competition. Why would they suggest a price that undercuts their market?

Hey Guys,

I really appreciate the expert input.

Perhaps there is a hoarde of eager Europeans crouched over their keyboards anxiously refreshing. Otherwise, if I cannot even get the initial bid of $499 American, even less once converted to Euros, then I will take the best offer and the shipping will remain free.

If anyone is interested, I also have a pair of blue Atomic Metron 9 (beta plus) 164 cm with bindings, from the same woman.

Now that I have survived the inaugural riffing of new poster, I hope we can get down to business. I am also glad I could provide an off-season chuckle or two while you guys dream of whiter days :)

Tis the season!

Tails up, now that is funny. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I am in the luxury hospitality industry. And why yes! You can put an Epicski sticker on my car, you guys have been great.

Before I throw these Atomics up on Ebay, does anyone want to make an offer:

(I will take more pictures upon serious request)

LOL, what timing, I googled "volant white gold" and this was the first item to turn up in the search.

I just bought a pair of these skis - brand new, $30 (no bindings).

I didn't even know Volant still existed. I only ever saw folks with vintage Volant skis on the mountain.

The dimensions of these skis at 170cm are 106, 66, 98. R15. I also had a pair of Vertex, however, one broke and I turned the other one into a shot-ski!

Here is the new and the old...

Nice shot ski!  The stainless finish works nicely.  I would have left the "T" in Volant, but YMMV.

Hmm, It didn't even occur to me when I measured and made the holes. Maybe on the next one!

OMG!  HOW DID YOU CUT THOSE HOLES!

I mean it's hard enough just to drill a hole through the cap, and it burns up drill bits. I can't imagine a hole saw being hard enough to cut it. confused.gif

BTW super score on the White Golds, usually they cost ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

No, given that they are Volants, that wouldn't penetrate, but it would certainly cause delamination. biggrin.gif
