I went to my podiatrist and he told me a bone spur has developed in a spot to the right of the fusion plate. At first he thought the plate had moved!
I'm now going to get a second opinion from an orthopedic surgeon (one my surgeon is recommending down here in VA) to see what he thinks. I did speak to my surgeon and she seems to think that because the swelling has generally gone down overally, this may be a hardware issue. I'm in the process of trying to set up this appt. with the surgeon and will let you know what the outcome is.
I'm not going to let this stop me from starting to train again for my triathlons. I plan on racing again next year and last night for the first time I went to a spin class. I was never so happy as I was spinning away last night. I'm confident that my surgery was a success and that I will be fully enough recovered to get back on the course next year. While I may not be exactly podium bound next year, I plan to continue to do my races and fully expect as I age I will one day be able to stand on the podium because I've had the toe fusions.
