A TALE OF TWO SKIING BIRTHDAYS - Page 2

Bob Peters, you should have postponed your surgery exactly one year. :-)  Ok, maybe not, but I'm sorry we couldn't provide yesterday's condtions a year ago.

Also, it appears that one miss Mikaela Shiffrin has decided to start stalking Betsy on her birthday: she got off chair 1 right after us. I took a photo (in light green jacket) but we didn't stop and chat this year. (it was a pow day, duh)

Great video, Bob!

Man... I can't believe how good that snow looked.  May 1.  Very cool.

And Mikaela is still following you guys around. Of course she would, you all obviously know where to find the great snow.

Looks like a really great day.

It was funny Bob.  The birthday gang is skiing all over powder's kingdom come and in my eye I spot Mikaela skiing down holding her poles horizontally out in front of her...very purposefully in balance...as she was working on some moderate spaced full turns.  I pulled up to a stop and just watched this phenom doing such a base drill, disciplined, despite all the falling powder.

She stopped a few yards below me looking up at her tracks.  Studying them quickly as the snow was filling back in fast.  She caught my eye, smiled, shrugged her shoulders, quickly turned and had those poles held horizontally again as she restarted her movement.

And there you have it.  The difference.  Short term/long term goals.

Me, the "mature" adult, screaming off looking to smear every falling inch of powder, undisciplined and childish as though this would be the last snowfall I'd ever see.

Youthful Mikaela, measured and purposeful, training, learning to deal with World Cup courses slowed by falling snow she'll be experiencing in the new season.

PS:  The gang missed you and Ruthie this year.  Come by next May 1, Betsy promises more birthday cake and powder once more :)

Yes, but the main thing is that you were both doing what you wished to do, and both (appeared) to be having fun!

So sad to have missed this year but happy to see you all gobbling up the powder.
